    Drivers are being warned of difficult conditions today due to strong winds on roads in parts of the West Midlands.

    The Met Office has extended its yellow weather warning for most of the region until 18:00, external, saying trees and branches could be brought down.

    The organisation says it also has yellow alerts for wind and rain on Sunday,, external covering much of the region, starting from 06:00.

    Meanwhile, the Environment Agency says it still has six flood alerts , externalin place after the heavy rain overnight spread across Staffordshire, Shropshire and Herefordshire.

    A police constable has been dismissed after a misconduct hearing found he'd failed to properly investigate and record cases., external

    West Mercia Police says PC Andrew Wright, 52, had served for 20 years with the force and was most recently working at Hindlip, in Worcestershire.

    A public misconduct hearing found six allegations against him, dating back to between 21 May 2017 and 30 July 2017, were proven.

    The force says his behaviour amounted to gross misconduct. It adds its ruling is subject to the usual appeals process.

    A senior police officer's called criticism of law enforcement in a market town "unfounded".

    Cheadle town councillor Peter Jackson had described policing in the area as a "joke" after recent issues.

    The authority spent £600 after vandals recently wrecked a football changing rooms, while a town nursery was vandalised over the August bank holiday weekend.

    But, at its latest meeting, Ch Insp Mark Thorley told councillors Staffordshire Police had fewer resources than 20 years ago and it had to target them.

    However, he said, compared to other parts of the county, "we are doing really well, our figures show zero increase in crime”.

    A car has crashed into the parapet wall of a 17th Century bridge in Herefordshire.

    Temporary traffic lights have been put in place on Lugwardine Bridge, on the A438 where it crosses the River Lugg, said Hereford Highways., external

    They're expected to remain in place for some time until safety repairs are complete.

    The bridge dates back to 1690 and was widened in 1824.

    An 11-year-old girl has been taken to hospital suffering minor injuries after being hit by a car in Coventry, police say.

    Emergency services were called to Moseley Primary School at about 08:15, said West Midlands Police.

    No-one has been arrested.

    Extra armed officers will be visible in Birmingham as the city hosts the Ukip conference, which starts at the ICC today.

    The Conservative Party conference will be held at the same venue next weekend.

    There is no specific threat, said West Midlands Police, but the threat level for international terrorism in the UK is currently severe.

    Broad Street, Bridge Street and Cambridge Street will have restrictions and diversions for vehicles from today until 5 October.

    Paramedics are currently at Moseley Primary School, in the Coundon area of the city, after being called shortly after 08:10.

    A crash involving multiple vehicles has closed the M6 northbound betwen J10 and J10a.

    The crash happened on the link for the M54.

    Traffic officers are on scene and emergency services en-route, said Highways England.

    A flood alert has been issued for the River Wye in Herefordshire.

    River levels in Hereford are expected to rise by about two metres before peaking overnight, said the Environment Agency.

    No major problems are expected, it said, but low lying land and roads may be affected.
