    Sir Peter Thornton QC, the coroner in charge of new inquests into the 1974 Birmingham pub bombings, has won a Court of Appeal challenge against a ruling which overturned his decision not to investigate who was responsible for the explosions as part of the proceedings.

    Shropshire Council's cabinet decided this morning to provide the services instead from seven hubs, in a bid to save £875,000.

    It adds that it doesn't plan to close the unneeded buildings but believes they'll be used by other organisations in the future.

    A landfill site is being searched by police after the suspected death of a 29-year-old man.

    Poplars Landfill in Cannock is being searched as part of the investigation.

    A spokesperson for Biffa, which owns the site, said: "Biffa can confirm that, at the request of the police, we are facilitating a search at our Poplars Landfill site in Cannock.

    "This follows the delivery of material by a third party to our site on Sunday 16th September."

    Police said the man may have died as a result of an industrial incident in Wolverhampton, but his body had not been recovered.

    Recycling lorries will soon be running through parts of Worcestershire, adorned with names including Donald Dump, Greta Garbage, Sir Trash a Lot and O-bin-wan Kenobi.

    Wychavon District Council asked local residents to help name the 15 new trucks and says it's now sifted through the 300 suggestions.

    A JCB vehicle worth £100,000 which police believe was stolen in Staffordshire has been found in Yorkshire., external

    The force says it's seized a total of £125,000 of stolen plant equipment in Barnsley after a tip-off.

    The JCB vehicle weighes 4.5 tonnes, is used to crush concrete and officers reckon it was taken from Keele University in May.

    Leading judges are to announce the result of an appeal by the coroner in charge of inquests into the 1974 Birmingham pub bombings that could see him name the suspects involved.

    Sir Peter Thornton QC has challenged a High Court ruling made earlier this year that ordered him to reconsider his decision to exclude an inquiry into the identities of those who "planted, planned, procured and authorised the bombs".

    Lord Chief Justice Lord Burnett, Lady Justice Hallett and Lord Justice McCombe will give their decision on the coroner's appeal later today.

    The bombings in two city centre pubs, widely believed to be the work of the IRA, killed 21 people and injured 182, making it the deadliest peacetime attack in the UK at the time.

    The coroner ruled in July last year that investigations into the identity of those responsible for the atrocities should not form part of his inquiry.

    A man has been arrested on suspicion of a modern slavery offence in Birmingham.

    The 27-year-old Romanian man was held on Tuesday morning in Erdington and has now been released under investigation pending further enquiries.

    An 18-year-old Romanian man is being looked after.

    The Gangmasters and Labour Abuse Authority acted after concerns were raised that the potential victim had been controlled and exploited by the suspect over the last three months.

    Three new railway stations planned along Birmingham's old Camp Hill line have moved a step closer.

    Initial designs have been published for the stations at Moseley, Kings Heath and Hazelwell.

    The new platforms are expected to cost about £40m to build and will help relieve congestion in the area.

    Laura Smith spoke at Momentum-organised The World Transformed festival, which is running alongside the Labour Party conference in Liverpool.

    A general strike is when workers from across industries take action collectively in large numbers and the last one in the UK happened in 1926.

    Five teenagers have been arrested, external after a man was stabbed earlier this month.

    Police say he was hurt after arguments at a house party spilled out onto the junction of Machin Crescent and Bradwell Lane in Bradwell, Newcastle under Lyme, on 14 September.

    The 28-year-old was stabbed as he tried to break up the fight, thinking initially he'd just been punched, while another man suffered injuries to his face.

    Officers say the teenagers have been arrested on suspicion of wounding and violent disorder and released under investigation.

    An area of a landfill site in Cannock has been cordoned off following the suspected death of a 29-year-old man.

    The man's mother contacted West Midlands Police on the evening of 14 September when he did not return from work in Wolverhampton.

    It is believed the man died as a result of an industrial incident, although his body has not yet been recovered.

    An investigation has been launched and West Midlands Police is working with the Health and Safety Executive to understand what happened.
