    Plans for the future of Worcester have been set out by Worcester City Council and the Local Enterprise Partnership.

    They set out the city's role within the wider region and have been described as "ambitious" by the LEP chief executive, Gary Woodman.

    The council said the plans could result in thousands of new jobs and the local economy boosted by hundreds of millions of pounds.

    Crewe manager David Artell says the club couldn't afford to sign Nicky Maynard in the summer.

    The former Alex striker came to train with them over the summer, to keep in shape, but signed for League Two rivals Bury instead.

    There's going to be permanent memorial in Worcester for Thomas Jones, the 18-year-old student from Bromsgrove, who was found dead in the River Severn.

    A plaque is going to be put up on the Sabrina footbridge, near to where he was last see alive.

  5. Salmon run prompts Twitter photos callpublished at 08:44 British Summer Time 10 October 2018

    People in Shrewsbury are being urged to take and tweet pictures of salmon at the town's weir as they begin their annual run to spawning sites up river.

    The Environment Agency says the fish are either leaping over the weir or using the fish pass at the site to get by the obstacle., external

    However, the agency says it wants to see as many pictures on Twitter of the salmon leaping there as they say the species is in decline due to issues like climate change.

    Chris Bainger, from the Environment Agency, told BBC Radio Shropshire photos of salmon leaping provided an insight into the "health of our river", as well as salmon populations.

    A 15-year-old boy is due to appear before Birmingham magistrates today, charged with attempted murder, after a a violent carjacking in Selly Oak on Sunday.

    The 22-year-old victim was stabbed several times and remains in a critical but stable condition in hospital.

    The teenager also faces a further six charges of attempted robbery.

    A 17-year-old boy will also appear in court charged with six counts of attempted robbery, while a 15-year-old girl has been released without charge.

    South Staffs Water says it's started the work on New Street, Cannock, and will temporarily shut several other routes as need arises until the work finishes in April.

    The firm says the work - which will stop for the Christmas period - is also about making its water supply more reliable.

    The government wants detailed plans drawn up to deal with air pollution in Newcastle-under-Lyme and Stoke-on-Trent.

    It says the A53 running through them is particularly bad and has asked Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council and Stoke-on-Trent City Council to produce a study about the road.

    The government has called for action from eight local authorities, including these two, and says funding will be available.

    Stoke-on-Trent City Council says it's working with the government and colleagues in Newcastle to reduce congestion and pollution.

    While the police in West Mercia and Warwickshire are ending their alliance, the fire services in Shropshire and Hereford and Worcester are discussing closer ties today.

    The plans are due to be discussed at a meeting in Shrewsbury and the two services say that while they are already cooperating informally, a more formal alliance will increase efficiency.

    Shrewsbury Town manager John Askey said last night's 6-0 win in the Checkatrade Trophy "gives everybody confidence".

    Fejiri Okenabirhie scored a hat-trick and there were also goals from Lenell John Lewis, Omar Beckles and Greg Docherty.

    Askey said he "enjoyed" the win over Tranmere and it "couldn't really have gone any better".

  12. Banksy print to be sold at auctionpublished at 07:21 British Summer Time 10 October 2018

    A print from the elusive street artist Banksy is going to be put on sale in Worcestershire.

    The picture HMV, along with a certificate of authenticity, depicts the famous logo of the music store of the same name, but with the dog holding a rocket launcher into the gramophone.

    It will be sold next month at Philip Serrall's auction house in Malvern and is expected to raise between £7,000 and £10,000.

    Birmingham City Council says it's getting a high volume of calls about missed bin collections, three weeks after a new system for workers was brought in.

    They're now on a five-day week, and some staff have told the BBC they're unhappy with how that's been rolled out, and that it's led to streets being missed.
