  1. Coventry City fans group hopes for an end to legal claimspublished at 13:44 British Summer Time 12 October 2018

    Wasps Rugby Club says it's "waiting for further developments", after the Court of Appeal rejected an application for a judicial review into the sale of the Ricoh Arena by the city council.

    “We have noted today’s judgement from the Court of Appeal and the response from the relevant parties," a statement reads.

    "We await further developments and, in the meantime, our position regarding the possibility of future discussions with CCFC [Coventry City FC] remains unchanged.”

    Wasps has previously said it would not enter into negotiations with the football club about extending its contract to play at the Ricoh whilst legal proceedings were active.

    Sisu could appeal to the Supreme Court, but David Johnson, from Coventry City supporters group Jimmy Hill Way, hopes it will end its legal claim.

    "I'm really hoping now that Sisu and all the parties on their side of the argument, which regrettably includes the football club under its legal entity of Otium Entertainment, will conclude that enough is enough," he said.

    Three men have been arrested after officers were called to reports of a car being repeatedly driven up and down a Birmingham road, by men wearing hoods and masks.

    Armed response officers arrested the three, on suspicion of conspiracy to commit robbery, after a short pursuit, ending when the offenders' car, thought to be stolen, crashed with a vehicle in Alma Street.

    A 19-year-old man was taken to hospital for treatment, and, along with another 19-year-old and a 33-year-old, remains in police custody.

    A tiger shark soft toy has been rescued by traffic officers from the M6 motorway overnight.

    Traffic officers have named him Fin, and will look after him until its owner gets in touch, it said.

    Police have confirmed their investigation into the deaths of two men on the same afternoon in Stoke-on-Trent is now a murder inquiry.

    Staffordshire Police has previously said that the discovery of two bodies within half a mile of each other yesterday afternoon in the Burslem area "could be linked", but at the time were treating the deaths as "unexplained".

    Ch Insp John Owen has confirmed to BBC Radio Stoke that it is now a murder inquiry but officers don't believe they're looking for anyone else, that it's an isolated incident.

    The first body was found near allotments by Leonora Street with the second discovered in Barnfield Road.

    Coventry City Council said it's "delighted" with a judgement by Court of Appeal judges today, dismissing an application for a judicial review into its sale of a 50% stake in the Ricoh Arena to Wasps Rugby.

    Coventry City FC's owner Sisu says Coventry City Council undervalued the stadium by £27m , externalwhen it was sold to the Premiership rugby union club in 2014.

    A joint statement from council leader, George Duggins, and the leader of the opposition Conservative Party group said the judgement "once again justifies why we have robustly defended all claims brought by Sisu-related companies over recent years".

    Anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage that could help explain the deaths of two men is being urged to come forward.

    Staffordshire Police says the pair were found less than half a mile apart, yesterday afternoon in Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent and appear to be linked.

    Flowers have been left outside one of the taped-off houses where police are continuing to investigate.

    Fire crews are working to remove the roof panels of a building that have come loose in Wolverhampton amid heavy rain and strong winds.

    It said officers were working off a hydraulic platform, at approximately 30ft (9m) in "blustery conditions".

    Drivers are being warned to avoid the area.

  9. Man arrested after Poundland knife incidentpublished at 12:25 British Summer Time 12 October 2018

    A man who took a knife from a discount store, and walked past shoppers with it has been arrested, police said.

    Officers were called to Poundland in Tunstall, after reports of a man becoming agitated in the shop.

    Witnesses say he wasn't brandishing the knife, but it was clearly visible.

    The 44-year-old was arrested on suspicion of affray, said Staffordshire Police.

    A professional misconduct panel heard William Turnbull, 41, exchanged hundreds of text messages with the student at The Grove School, Market Drayton, Shropshire, and spent time alone with her in his car and at other locations.

    The panel was also told the maths teacher accepted a watercolour picture from the pupil, which was found by his partner in his bedroom.

    Mr Turnbull decided not to attend the hearing - the panel says he was found guilty of unacceptable professional conduct between May 2016 and February 2017.

    The secretary of state agreed with the recommendation and prohibited him from teaching indefinitely and he cannot teach in any school, sixth form college, relevant youth accommodation or children's home in England.

    Warwickshire Police is being investigated by the police watchdog after a man fell ill at a Leamington Spa police station, and later died.

    The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) said the investigation was launched following the arrest of a 35-year-old on recall to prison on Sunday 7 September.

    He was taken to Warwick Hospital, after falling ill, and he died on Monday 8 October.

    The coroner has been informed and a post-mortem examination is being arranged, the IOPC says.
