    Fewer than 40% of trains arrived on time at New Street, data analysis by consumer group Which? found.

  12. Man suffers 'life-changing injuries' in assaultpublished at 18:47 British Summer Time 15 October 2018

    A man has suffered "life-changing injuries" in a serious assault, Staffordshire Police said.

    Officers are investigating the assault which happened on Market Lane, Newcastle-under-Lyme at about 01:30 on Sunday.

    The 48-year-old victim man was taken to Royal Stoke University Hospital where he remains - his condition is described as stable.

    A 30-year-old man from Stoke-on-Trent was arrested at the scene on suspicion of assault causing grievous bodily harm.

    He has since been released under investigation, pending further enquiries.

    Det Sgt John Dowie said: "This was a very serious assault that has left a man hospitalised with horrendous injuries.

    "We believe that the victim was drinking in the Foyer nightclub immediately before the assault took place.

    "We are also particularly keen to speak to a woman and another man in connection with this incident."

    An inquest into three patients, treated by a Worcestershire doctor who was subsequently jailed for lying about his qualifications, heard he had been cleared to work despite "damning statements" from several colleagues.

    The Worcestershire Coroner's Court heard Sudip Sarker had been described as a "pathological liar" who "should not be allowed anywhere near a patient" even before he completed his training in colorectal surgery.

    The first day of the inquest also heard Sarker had threatened legal action before being approved as a qualified surgeon by a health service training body in 2009.

    Sarker, 48, was given a six-year sentence at Worcester Crown Court in February after being convicted of fraud which landed him a job at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust.

    The inquest is expected to last up to four weeks.

    Two Herefordshire farmers have launched a new brand of crisps which come in a completely biodegradable packet.

    Mark Green and Sean Mason use their own potatoes and local suppliers to produce the Two Farmers brand.

    The packets are made of Eucalyptus wood pulp, which are said to break down in just six months on land or in water.

    A man has been charged with the murder of Christopher Harm, 28, who was stabbed to death in a car park in Dudley in the early hours of Saturday.

    Glen Elvin, 25, of no fixed address, will appear at Dudley Magistrates' Court on Tuesday morning.

    Mr Harm's family have paid tribute to a "loving son, dad and brother" following the incident in Engine Lane, Brierley Hill.

    Police are putting on extra patrols to tackle drug dealing and anti-social behaviour on a main road through Crewe town centre.

    Businesses on Nantwich Road (pictured) say the area is being blighted by people out drinking and taking drugs in the street.

    Ron Dean, who runs a barber's shop on the road, says he welcomes the extra police patrols.
