    LDC has sold the NEC Group to another private equity firm.

    The group, owning the NEC, Genting Arena, the ICC and Arena Birmingham, has been acquired by funds managed by Blackstone.

    Birmingham City Council sold the group for £307m in January 2015.

  2. Post-mortem tests carried out after two bodies foundpublished at 13:55 British Summer Time 15 October 2018

    Post-mortem examinations are taking place today for two men found dead in what are being treated as "linked" cases in a murder investigation.

    A man in his 50s was found dead near a Stoke-on-Trent allotment on Friday. The body of a second man, believed to be 19, was found later the same day, about half a mile away at an address in Barnfield Road, Burslem.

    Formal identification of the two men has not yet taken place and is not expected to be completed until the middle of this week at the earliest.

    Det Ch Insp Jason Everett said: "There is nothing to suggest anyone else is involved in this incident, however my detectives are working hard to eliminate all possibilities before we can confirm the series of events that led to the two men's deaths."

  3. Man stabbed to death named as Richard Helmpublished at 13:45 British Summer Time 15 October 2018

    A man who was killed on Friday morning has been named by police as 37-year-old Richard Helm.

    He died in Raven Crescent in Ashmore Park, Wolverhampton at about 05:15. A post-mortem examination confirmed he died of a stab injury.

    Mr Helm's family said: "Richard was a loving son, husband and father to four young children.

    "He has been taken from us too soon. We love and deeply miss him so much."

    A 27-year-old man handed himself into Wolverhampton police station last night and was subsequently arrested on suspicion of murder.

    He remains in custody for questioning, West Midlands Police said.

    Three men were previously arrested on suspicion of his death.

    One was released with no further action and the other two have been released on police bail with strict conditions.

    A group of Birmingham head teachers will meet face-to-face with the education secretary today to demand better funding.

    They’ll tell Damian Hinds their budgets are stretched to breaking point.

    Among them is Victoria Nussey, head teacher of Paget Primary at Erdington in Birmingham.

    A 77-year-old man suffered head injuries after being "badly assaulted" in a care home, police have said.

    Staffordshire Police were called to a retirement apartment complex at Gloucester Grange, Clayton, Newcastle-under-Lyme, at 04:46 after reports of a man "smashing his way in to the building with a weapon".

    Andrei Szatkowski, Executive Director of Operations at Aspire Housing said they were aware of the incident.

    A 28-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

    A 13-year-old girl has died after being hit by a car in Tamworth.

    Staffordshire Police are appealing for witnesses following the incident on Friday.

    It happened at about 19:00 on the River Drive junction with Fazeley Road and involved a black Hyundai Tucson.

    The girl has now been formally identified as 13-year-old Jorja Deborah Fisher. She suffered serious injuries and was taken to Birmingham Children’s Hospital, where she died a short time later.

    Flood warnings for Herefordshire have now been downgraded.

    One for Hereford on the River Wye has now been scaled back to a flood alert, while a warning for Lydbrook and Ross-on-Wye has been removed from the Environment Agency list, external altogether.

    The new operators of Wales and Borders rail services have taken over the running of the franchise through Shropshire.

    There is also £738m to electrify the South Wales valleys lines, add more services and launch the new South Wales Metro over the next 15 years.

    It marks an end to the troubled tenure for Arriva Trains Wales, criticised for overcrowding on commuter services.

    Stourbridge FC suffered an unfortunate auto-correct error on non-league day.

    The club tweeted in the 65th minute of the match on Saturday: "Chance for Stourbridge, Thompson-Brown shoots wife from 20 yards 1-1".

    We can only hope the tweeter meant "shoots wide...".

    A horse has died after being involved in a crash on the A449 near Ombersley, Worcestershire, last night.

    The driver of a car, a man in his 30s, was taken to hospital with serious injuries after the crash, which happened at about 23:40.

    A second vehicle was also involved, police say,, external and the driver of that van sustained only minor injuries.

    The southbound road remains closed between the Mitre Oak island heading towards Worcester and Crossways Green.

    Patisserie Holdings' chief executive Paul May has stood down from his role on the board of The Restaurant Group "with immediate effect".

    The Birmingham-based group firm which owns brands including Frankie & Benny's and Garfunkel's - said it "understood and accepted his decision".

    The move isn't surprising given Mr May must have his hands full dealing with the current situation at Patisserie Valerie.

    The cafe chain has been fighting for survival after revealing last week it had uncovered "significant, and potentially fraudulent, accounting irregularities".

    City of Wolverhampton Council is taking on three new workers to tackle homelessness.

    The outreach workers will help people sleeping rough, by finding them accommodation, benefits and other support services.

    The money has come from a £138,000 grant awarded by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government in June.

    At the time, deputy leader of the council Peter Bilson it would make a "real difference to reducing the number of rough sleepers in the city".

    Teenage wheelchair racer, Kare Adenegan, is one of 10 athletes shortlisted for the BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year.

    This year the Coventry athlete became T34 100m WPA European champion, winning her first gold medal in senior competition, and took silver in the T34 800m.

    The 17-year-old also took the T34 100m world record at the London Anniversary Games.
