    A man was taken to hospital after a two-car crash in Wolverhampton this morning.

    Emergency services were called to the junction of Second Avenue and Fourth Avenue at about 08:50.

    The crash was caused by "wet, slippery" roads, police said.

    Two lanes have reopened on the M5 near Droitwich, external this morning after a shed load had blocked the entire northbound carriageway.

    Highways England says it's working to get the entire motorway reopened as soon as possible between J6 and J5.

    Passengers retrieving lost property from West Midlands Railway and London Northwestern stations will no longer be charged, it's been announced.

    The train operators said they had been reviewing a lost property scheme they inherited when they began operating in December 2017.

    They are also working on a website to make the process of retrieving lost property easier, the firms said.

    A crash involving two vehicles in Wolverhampton this morning was caused by wet, slippery roads, police say.

    No one was seriously hurt in the Low Hill incident.

    Drivers are being warned to take care in the wet conditions.

    A couple have decked their home in hundreds of Christmas decorations in what is surely one of the most arresting festive displays in the country.

    John and Jean Copestick, both 75, from Stirchley, have been putting on the displays at their home for nearly 30 years.

    This year they started turning their home on Barn Close into "Santa Claus's helpers' house" in October.

    Mrs Copestick, who has 43 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren, said: "If I could get my hubby to leave these up all year round, I would.

    As for the cost of nearly three decades' worth of tinsel, flashing lights, Santa figurines, baubles and numerous Christmas trees, Mrs Copestick said she "couldn't even put a figure on it", adding: "It has cost a pretty penny over the years."

  10. Trains brought to a halt by pigeonspublished at 09:53 Greenwich Mean Time 3 December 2018

    Trains between Birmingham and London were delayed by up to more than an hour yesterday due to pigeons.

    Several birds hit a West Midlands Railway train between Coventry and Rugby, badly damaging it and blocking the southbound line for several hours.

    The train operator said its 14:14 Birmingham New Street service to Euston suffered damage to its braking system, meaning another train had to be sent to "rescue it".

    Many trains were rerouted, leaving operators like Virgin Trains and London Northwestern to break the news to disgruntled passengers.

    A man who admitted murdering a midwife, and burying her in a shallow grave, is set to be sentenced today.

    The body of Samantha Eastwood, 28, was found in Caverswall, Staffordshire, in August, eight days after she went missing.

    Michael Stirling, 32, the brother-in-law of her ex-fiance John Peake, pleaded guilty to her murder when he appeared at Northampton Crown Court in October.

    He's due to appear at Stafford Crown Court today.

    The 46 year-old was detained on Sutherland Road in Longton last night - and remains in custody.
