A pub which served soldiers during World War Two is to be demolished to make way for a care home.
The Cock Inn in Rubery was built in 1811 but in recent years has been set on fire and targeted by vandals while sitting empty.
The local authority's planning committee has approved plans from Malvern Homes to knock it down, replacing it with a 64-bedroom care home.
During the war, the pub served soldiers stationed at a nearby quarry who manned barrage balloons in place to prevent low-flying aircraft from bombing the Austin factory units at Longbridge.

Crewe manager David Artell says some other managers aren't getting the support they need from their clubs.
Speaking as he approaches his 100th game in charge, he praised his own board for its backing, revealing he got a phone call of support from one of the directors when he was feeling low after a bad result last season.
He said the call lifted his spirits and was "exactly what you need".
Artell said he'd never managed anywhere else, but from talking to fellow managers he'd heard boards at some other clubs "come after you as soon as reasonably possible and they listen to the fans".

Mr Street, who is yet to respond to the challenge, is proposing that after the mayoral election in 2020, whoever is elected should also take on the job of ensuring the police force is run effectively.
PCC David Jamieson says he has "significant concerns" over whether a mayor alone can oversee the running of the West Midlands force as well as improving transport services, creating jobs and getting new homes built.
