    Bromsgrove's Jess Varnish begins her case against British Cycling and UK Sport later.

    The 28-year-old sprinter is claiming unfair dismissal.

    The tribunal will consider if, as an athlete in receipt of UK Sport funding, she was self-employed or an employee. Should it be ruled that Varnish was an employee, the parties would reconvene for a tribunal in 2019.

    British Cycling's controversial former chief medic Dr Richard Freeman is due to give evidence later.

    Varnish was omitted from the team following the 2016 Track Cycling World Championships in London, after the two-woman, two-rider team sprint squad she was part of failed to qualify for the Rio Olympics.

    Walsall will try to make it through to the third round of the FA Cup as they visit Sunderland tonight.

    The first game ended in a 1-1 draw ten days ago with Andy Cook scoring the Saddlers equaliser.

    They will earn a trip to Bolton in the next round if they can win this evening.

    A 13-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of assault after three teenagers were stabbed outside a school.

    The three were taken to hospital after the incident outside University of Birmingham School in Selly Oak on Monday afternoon.

    The boy is currently in police custody.

    Investigations are continuing after three teenage boys were stabbed outside a school in Birmingham on Monday.

    Emergency crews were called to University of Birmingham School, at the university's campus in Weoley Park Road, Selly Oak, during the afternoon.

    The boys' injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, West Midlands Ambulance Service said.

    The termination of an alliance between Warwickshire and West Mercia police forces will have "no adverse impact" on local policing, Warwickshire's Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) says.

    The two forces, who merged services five years ago, have decided to scrap the union.

    PCC Philip Seccombe says an agreement has now been reached to separate budgets for each force.

    The funding for neighbourhood policing, patrol officers, crime investigation and roads policing will now revert to each respective force’s control from the new financial year onwards, he said.

    The force is currently recruiting new officers.

    Casper Platt-May, two, and his brother Corey, six, were struck by a speeding driver as they crossed Longfellow Road in Coventry. They had been on their way to a park.

    The council is set to spend £170,000 installing pedestrian refuge areas to improve safety at the junction.

    More than 4,000 people signed petitions asking the council for speed reduction measures in the area.

    Robert Brown, 53, of Attwood Crescent, Wyken, who was doing more than 60mph, admitted causing the deaths by dangerous driving and has been jailed.

    Overrunning engineering works are affecting rail services between Birmingham and London Euston.

    Passengers are able to use West Midlands Railway services between Rugby and Euston.

    Works not being finished on time , externalbetween London Euston and Watford Junction are to blame, Network Rail said.

    The Duchess of Sussex made an appearance at the British Fashion Awards to present the Birmingham-born designer of her wedding dress with an award.

    Givenchy's artistic director Clare Waight Keller was named the Womenswear Designer of the Year at the Royal Albert Hall in London last night.

    In her acceptance speech, Ms Waight Keller praised the Duchess and thanked her for trusting her with the design of her wedding dress.

    "This woman is so amazing," she said.

    Proposed designs for the Commonwealth Games aquatics centre have been unveiled.

    Swimming and diving competitions will be held at the £60m development at Londonderry Field in Smethwick for the Commonwealth Games in 2022.

    A 50m Olympic-sized competition swimming pool, a 25m diving pool, a studio pool and 1,000 spectator seats will be built amongst other facilities including a ladies-only gym.

    The governor of HMP Birmingham will be questioned by MPs about why conditions were allowed to deteriorate so badly at the prison.

    The government took over the running of the prison from G4S in August after it was described as being in a "state of crisis".

    Inspectors described it as "not a safe environment for many", with an average of 120 assaults reported each month, blood, vomit and rat droppings on the floor, sleeping staff, cockroaches and an overpowering smell of drugs.

    The Justice Committee will interview governor Paul Newton, the prison service and the security firm G4S.
