    A litter of five police puppies are in need of names, West Midlands Police has tweeted, external, and the force is holding a poll to find them.

    The three girls and two boys are to be named after either reindeer, film stars, Christmas-related names or famous detectives, it said.

    The winning names will be announced on Friday.

    For that work, the southbound side's going to be completely closed from 20:00 to 06:00 tonight between Porthill and Wolstanton until the middle of January, with a break for Christmas.

    Worcestershire's Moeen Ali and Warwickshire pair Olly Stone (pictured) and Chris Woakes have kept their places in the England squad for the three-Test series in the West Indies, starting next month.

    England have won only one Test series in the West Indies since 1968, when Michael Vaughan's team sealed a 3-0 win in 2004.

    Ali and Woakes are also in the five-match one-day series starting in February, but Stone's been left out, despite making his ODI debut in Sri Lanka where he took one wicket in three innings.

    An eight-year-old girl who ran away from home has sent a letter of apology to the emergency services in Cheshire for wasting police time.

    The girl, who "didn't go far", has promised "never to do it again" after being found safe and well.

    So-called dementia clubs pioneered in Herefordshire and Worcestershire are set to be rolled out across the rest of the UK.

    The University of Worcester has helped to set up nine clubs so far including those in Leominster, Ross-on-Wye and Droitwich.

    They are run by the members and encourage people to make new friends and share experiences.

    Now, having secured funding from the Big Lottery Fund,, external the university is planning to establish more of them in other parts of the country.

    Organisers also say they aim to launch a "dementia bus" next year to visit rural communities in Herefordshire and the Welsh borders.

    A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder as police name the man shot dead at a home in Coventry last week.

    Addison Packeer, 27, was found with serious injuries at an address in Chepstow Close, Willenhall in the early hours of Friday morning.

    A post-mortem examination revealed he died from a gunshot wound.

    A 25-year-old man presented himself at a police station this morning and is currently in custody for questioning, said West Midlands Police.

    A 44-year-old man arrested last week has been released pending further enquiries.

    Two men died and two men suffered serious injuries in a crash in the north Cotswolds on Sunday.

    A grey Nissan collided with a black Ford pick-up truck on the A424 between Stow-on-the-Wold and Burford at about 9.15am.

    The driver of the Nissan, a 50-year-old man from Coventry, and a passenger in the pick-up truck, a 74-year-old man from Devizes in Wiltshire, were pronounced dead at the scene.

    The driver of the pick-up truck, a 63-year-old man from Devizes, was airlifted to Southmead Hospital in Bristol with serious injuries and remains in a stable condition.

    A 61-year-old man from Devizes who was a passenger in the Ford-pick-up truck, suffered serious injuries and was taken to John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, where he remains in a stable condition.

    This victory came four days after they ended a run of seven league games without a victory by beating fourth-placed Chelsea 2-1.

    Victory was Wolves' second in succession in the league - the first time they have secured back-to-back wins since early October.

    Birmingham City Council wants to hire a dedicated immigration boss in a bid to help asylum seekers, refugees and migrants.

    It is thought about 250,000 of Birmingham’s 1.1 million population are migrants and in 2016 alone it welcomed more than 15,000 new arrivals.

    Charities and other organisations identified people from 120 different countries who needed support.

    The new post, set to cost £59,000 for about 12 months, is part of a wider bid which has been made to the government worth £862,542 in total.

    It is hoped the money, if granted, will help about 4,000 asylum seekers, refugees and EU migrants in areas such as housing and welfare support and help ease "pressure points".

    The cabinet is expected to retrospectively approve the funding request at a meeting tomorrow.

    Former Aston Villa and Birmingham City footballer Dwight Yorke has avoided bankruptcy after paying his tax debts in full.

    A court hearing in October heard the 47-year-old owed £1.5m and was the subject of a bankruptcy petition from HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC).

    But at an Insolvency and Companies Court hearing in London on Monday, Tomi Omoyinme, representing HMRC, said: "The debt has been paid in full."

    The footballer, who scored 97 goals in 294 appearances for Aston Villa, retired in 2009.

    Businesses who came together to get a Christmas tree in their town say it's already improved the atmosphere.

    Residents in Cannock, Staffordshire, said it was "unbelievable" the council had to give up its responsibility for providing decorations.

    The authority said it gave up its responsibility for providing a tree and Christmas decorations and handed responsibility over to the Cannock Chase Traders' Association in a bid to save £33,590 a year.

    But local firms came together to get two trees and arranged a switch-on event which included a fun fair on Saturday.

    One local charity who was involved with the decorations told the BBC: "We didn't have a Christmas spirit in Cannock, we have got it now."
