    Former Wizzard singer Roy Wood has had to cancel a show after his band's instruments and equipment were stolen.

    Hull City Hall said the Birmingham musician's band had "all of their instruments" taken along with a sound system and a vehicle.

    The band was due to play at the venue later but has issued an apology after being forced to cancel.

    Wizzard are most famous for the 1970s hit I Wish It Could Be Christmas Every Day.

  5. Flood-hit road will not reopen fully until Saturdaypublished at 17:36 Greenwich Mean Time 13 December 2018

    Severn Trent says repairs to the burst water pipe on Hagley Road which caused flooding earlier today should be carried out overnight.

    It says two lanes will remain closed to allow the road to be resurfaced afterwards and it hopes to have everything finished by Saturday lunchtime.

    Plans to modernise Shropshire Council's headquarters in Shrewsbury have been approved by councillors today.

    A report suggests spending £25m on the Shirehall building, arguing that if it isn't renovated, it'll cost more to run and repair and that its appearance has become "tired and outdated".

    The building is largely empty on Friday afternoons, after the authority took the decision to ask staff to work from home one day a week.

    The court battle over whether Shropshire's fire service should be controlled by the West Mercia Police and Crime Commissioner won't be resolved until March at the soonest, a meeting has been told.

    The Shropshire fire authority is fighting the move, which was approved by the Home Secretary earlier this year, and has asked for a judicial review.

    Plans to cut chaperones from school buses in Warwickshire were discussed by councillors today.

    The county council is due to remove "passenger assistants" from most services in the Warwickshire from February.

    They will only remain in some special circumstances.

    Parents have petitioned against the proposal which will be discussed by the local authority today.

    A swimming club in Shrewsbury has had to cancel its annual January Gala for the second year in a row.

    The Shrewsbury Masters, say it's due to "technical issues" with the Quarry Swimming Pool.

    The gala attracts swimming clubs from across the country.

    Last year the club was forced to cancel the event after a pane of glass shattered and fell in to the pool, leading to a major clean-up operation.

    A very sick 11-month-old girl, who has spent her life in hospital, should be allowed to die peacefully, a High Court judge has ruled.

    Bosses at the Birmingham Women's and Children's NHS Foundation Trust, who have responsibility for the little girl's care, had asked the court to rule that she could be allowed to die.

    Mr Justice Hayden said doctors could stop providing "futile" life-support treatment to the child, who can't be identified.

    Her parents said they understood what doctors were saying, but could not make the decision to let her die and wanted a judge to take that responsibility.

  12. More agency job losses as JLR production moves to Slovakiapublished at 16:30 Greenwich Mean Time 13 December 2018

    Around 130 agency jobs are to be cut following Jaguar Land Rover's (JLR) decision to move production to Slovakia.

    Agency DHL Supply Chain, which provides logistics support for JLR, said it was reducing staffing levels at its sites at Tyrefort in Erdington and Midpoint in Minworth.It comes after planned job losses were revealed at JLR's Solihull plant in November, where 250 DHL agency jobs are set to go.

    JLR announced in June that it planned to move production of its Land Rover Discovery to Eastern Europe.

    DHL Supply Chain said following the announcement of production changes at JLR, it was "obliged to re-balance" its operation and reduce staff. A spokeswoman added: "We recognise that this is a difficult time for all concerned and thank everyone for their continued commitment to providing great service to our customer.”

    The agency workers will be released over a phased period starting early 2019, she said.

    A children's charity has called for the creation of a regulator with the power to fine social media companies after a police officer used online apps to groom a 13-year-old girl before raping her.

    Former Cheshire police officer Ian Naude preyed on the victim and other young girls via Facebook, WhatsApp, Snapchat and Kik.

    The NSPCC said a regulator was required to hold to account "social media companies who don’t do enough to root out this sickening behaviour”.

    Naude, 30, of Market Drayton in Shropshire, was jailed for 25 years after being found guilty of raping the teenager.

  15. JCB staff to get £1k Christmas bonus after record yearpublished at 16:02 Greenwich Mean Time 13 December 2018

    JCB is giving 7,200 of its staff a £1,000 Christmas bonus this year.

    The company, which has 11 factories in Staffordshire, Derbyshire and Wrexham says it's coming at the end of a "exceptional year" which saw its machine-production reach a 73-year high.

    Armed thieves have broken into a home in Codsall and stolen a man's Falklands war medal.

    The three masked men threatened the couple living there with a 10-inch knife during the raid on Monday and pushed a cushion into one of their faces, before forcing them into a bathroom while they carried out the raid.
