    Walsall Council said it could sell off naming rights to the New Art Gallery in the town, in a bid to raise money.

    It's previously considered closing the gallery completely in order to make savings.

    It now needs to cut another £20m from its budget and is also said to be open to taking advertising on its website or bin lorries.

    A multi-millionaire businessman, accused of killing his girlfriend during "rough sex" is set to be sentenced today.

    John Broadhurst, 40, who was cleared of murdering Natalie Connolly on the directions of the judge at his trial at Birmingham Crown Court, admitted a charge of manslaughter.

    Prosecutors had alleged the property developer "totally lost it" during a drink and drug-fuelled sex session.

    Broadhurst of Wolverley, Worcestershire, will be sentenced at Birmingham Crown Court.

    West Brom, Coventry and England striker Cyrille Regis, along with Former Aston Villa chairman Sir Doug Ellis, were among the host of figures from the world of sport remembered at a ceremony last night.

    The sporting names who have died since the 2017 Sports Personality of the Year programme were remembered at the event in Birmingham.

    Jaguar Land Rover could be preparing to cut up to 5,000 jobs in the early part of next year, the Financial Times is reporting on its front page., external

    Thomas Moore, investment director at Aberdeen Standard, told the Today Programme that it felt like such a move was "coming". There have been profit warnings from other car makers, he said.

    And, he pointed out, the Coventry-based car company was feeling the impact of slowing sales of diesel cars and falling Chinese demand.

    The company said it noted the "media speculation" about the potential impact of its ongoing transformation programmes.

    "As announced when we published our second quarter results, these programmes aim to deliver £2.5bn of cost, cash and profit improvements over the next two years. Jaguar Land Rover does not comment on rumours concerning any part of these plans.”

    A man is due to appear in court today charged with the murders of a mother and daughter.

    Khaola Saleem, 49, and Raneem Oudeh, 22, were found stabbed to death outside Ms Saleem's home in Solihull in August.

    Ms Oudeh's former partner Janbaz Tarin, 21, of Evelyn Road, Sparkhill, is expected to enter his pleas at Birmingham Crown Court.

    A former executive at HS2 has said he believes the company misled MPs about how much it would cost to purchase land along the route of the new high-speed rail line.

    Doug Thornton told the BBC's Panorama the costing underestimated the value of many properties HS2 needed to purchase along the proposed route and thousands more had not been budgeted for.

    The estimated cost of the first phase - between London and Birmingham - is about £27bn.

    Mr Thornton said the figure MPs saw was hundreds of millions of pounds too low. He was later dismissed.

    HS2 rejects claims MPs were misled.
