  1. Man hit by lorry on M6published at 07:26 Greenwich Mean Time 14 March 2019

    A man has been hit by a lorry on the M6 motorway.

    He was struck just before 06:15 on the southbound carriageway close to J10, near Walsall, said West Midlands Police.

    Drivers are being advised to avoid the area.

    Emergency services are yet to comment on the man's condition.

    Part of the M6 southbound carriageway is closed in the West Midland due to a "police incident".

    Traffic is being diverted away from the area, from J11 to J10 near Walsall.

    A shop worker has been attacked during a robbery in Crewe.

    Cheshire Police says two people got into a tile store on Oak Street via the fire escape on Monday evening.

    The pair, who wore dark clothing and had their faces covered, demanded cash from the assistant before assaulting him.

    Detectives say he was left shaken but "relatively unharmed".

    Cheshire Police says thieves got into the home on Bramhall Road, Crewe, on Monday morning when no-one was inside the house.

    Shortly afterwards, they say two men, both with their faces covered, were seen carrying a safe while coming out of nearby Adlington Close.

    The safe contained several items of jewellery including a gold sovereign coin and two watches.

    A £5,000 reward's been offered to try and catch four men , externalwho attacked a 71-year-old man in his own home.

    The masked men forced their way into the house on Titford Road, Oldbury, on 10 February and hit Albert Joseph with a hammer as well as stabbing and cutting him.

    They also held a knife to his six-year-old son's throat during the robbery, external which saw them make off with £4,000 of jewellery and gold and £450 in cash.

    The charity Crimestoppers says Mr Joseph has been left with a broken back and they're offering the reward for information in a bid to catch the men.

    "Devastating" cuts to youth services are partly to blame for a rise in knife crime in Walsall, the leader of the council has said.

    Conservative councillor Mike Bird told a Safer Walsall Partnership meeting that since 2016 the authority had cut almost £800,000 from its youth services budget and said previous administrations had also made big cuts.

    A report to the meeting said the number of young victims of knife crime had increased by 40% since 2016-17.

    Mr Bird told fellow councillors "the blame lies here" and said the local authority had to "start engaging with young people in Walsall again".
