    There's still heavy congestion around J10 of the M6 as it remains closed after a man was struck by a lorry earlier.

    The A545 Wolverhampton Road Eastbound is also slow, after the incident which happened shortly after 06:15 near Walsall.

    A driver caught filming the scene can "expect a summons" said motorway police.

  2. Site prepared for Knife Angel sculpturepublished at 10:43 Greenwich Mean Time 14 March 2019

    A site outside Coventry Cathedral is being prepared to host a huge sculpture dedicated to the victims of knife crime and featuring 100,000 knives.

    The 26-foot-high (8m) Knife Angel sculpture, built by the British Ironworks Centre outside Oswestry, will be on display in Coventry from later today until 23 April.

  4. Hospital working to fix problems with new £3m wardpublished at 10:32 Greenwich Mean Time 14 March 2019

    The trust which runs the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital says its working to fix the problems which held up the opening of an extra ward, intended to help it cope with winter A&E pressures.

    The hospitals trust is currently in special measures and the latest data places its A&Es among the worst in England according to the government's four-hour target.

    A health commissioners meeting yesterday heard that Ward 35, which cost £3m, opened in February and was meant to have 28 beds, but has instead been used as a discharge lounge, because it failed to meet fire regulations.

    Nigel Lee, the chief operating officer at the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust, said the building which houses it was built in the 1960s and said there hadn't been a problem with staff numbers.

    He also said the hospital had been able to provide enough capacity for patients needing urgent care.

    Stoke City manager Nathan Jones praised his players' determination in their 0-0 draw at Derby County last night, but said they have to play better.

    It was their sixth goal-less performance in the last 10 games and they remain 10 points off the Championship play-off places with just nine games remaining.

    Stoke managed only five shots on goal in the match, none of them on target, and it could have been worse, because Derby County had 19 shots on goal and were kept out by Jack Butland.

    Thousands of people have objected to a 55% increase in burial costs in Birmingham which has been branded a "tax on the deceased".

    The city council included plans in its 2019-20 budget to increase internment fees for people over the aged of 17 from £681 to £1,054.

    The move has been met with huge opposition and accusations that it failed to make the proposal clear in its public consultation on the draft budget last year.

    An online petition launched by the Birmingham Muslim Burial Council against the increase has amassed more than 4,500 signatures.

    Up to 200 bikes will be available to hire in Hereford from June, in a bid to cut congestion.

    They've been brought in by Hereford Council for an initial two years and they will be parked at various locations around the city and available to hire using a smartphone.

    The council's head of traffic, Richard Vaughan, said the scheme should also reduce pollution and encourage people to live healthier lifestyles.

    Jaguar Land Rover is recalling 44,000 cars in the UK over carbon dioxide emissions, the car maker has said.

    Regulators found 10 models were emitting more of the greenhouse gas than they had been certified to release.

    The Coventry-based car maker will contact owners to arrange repairs, a JLR spokeswoman said.

    JLR is facing a number of challenges at the moment, including a slump in demand for diesel cars and a sales slowdown in China.

    A former council tenant bought their home under Right to Buy for £8,000 and sold it on for £285,000 nine days later - a £277,000 profit, the BBC found.

    The Solihull buyer was among 140 in Great Britain who bought and resold within one month, making a £3m collective profit.

    Opponents of the scheme said too many people had profited from a policy that had "much bigger social ambitions".

    Supporters said Right to Buy helped people secure their financial future.

  12. £3m winter pressures ward fails to meet fire regulationspublished at 08:56 Greenwich Mean Time 14 March 2019

    A 28-bed ward at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital that was meant provide extra capacity during the busy winter months hasn't been able to operate as intended, because it failed to meet fire regulations, it has emerged.

    Instead, the £3m Ward 35 has been used as a discharge lounge, a meeting of the Shropshire Clinical Commissioning Group was told.

    The meeting also heard it didn't have enough staff.

    The fire safety concerns were raised shortly after it opened on 4 February and the CCG meeting heard more building work was needed to allow it to comply with fire regulations.

    The BBC is awaiting a response from the hospital trust.

    A meeting to try to find a solution to the row over the future of Coventry City Football Club will be held at Westminster later.

    The club faces being kicked out of the Football League unless it can find a home ground for next season.

    Its deal to play at the Ricoh Arena runs out in May.

    It's the first meeting in a year of all the key parties in the dispute.

    The club's owners have publicly promised an end to their legal action against the local council over the sale of the Ricoh Arena if they get support to build a new home in the city.

    The M6 motorway closure has been scaled back, after a man was struck by a lorry earlier.

    The southbound carriageway is now only closed within J10, with traffic now able to use the slip roads, police say.

    Drivers are being diverted away from the M6 after a man was struck by a lorry this morning.

    The motorway remains closed from J10 to J11 near Walsall after the incident which happened just before 06:15.

    The man's condition is as yet unknown.
