More than 180 children have gone missing in less than a year, a Walsall council report has revealed.

Some children who become victims of exploitation are conditioned into not trusting the authorities, care bosses said.

A report to Monday’s Children’s Services Overview and Scrutiny Committee said more than half of the children declined a "return home" interview.

Officers in the in-house team are currently looking at ways to engage with more children who go missing, as well as developing strategies to prevent incidents in the first place.

We keep trying to make contact and engage with the children. These children are the victims and we need to be tackling those who are offending. It is about getting the message through to them and keeping them safe as well as using disruption strategies to stop missing episodes.

    Local Democracy Reporting Service

Plans for three major housing developments in Shropshire will go before councillors next week.

The other two proposals are the development of the forner Ironbridge Power Station site and the former Clive Barracks site at Tern Hill near Market Drayton.

The council's Director of Place Mark Barrow said "Shropshire has the potential to benefit significantly from these opportunities by securing large-scale investment in strategic and local infrastructure to help mitigate the impact of growth on existing towns".

However, he warned the scale of the developments would cause challenges.
