    Police say they have arrested a grandmother on the morning school run after finding her four times the drink drive limit.

    Officers from Telford said they spotted the car driving without insurance before the motorist blew a "whopping 145" on the breath test.

    The legal limit is 35 microgrammes per 100 millilitres of breath.

  2. Should Birmingham lose points over Grealish assault?published at 13:22 Greenwich Mean Time 11 March 2019

    Speaking last night on Match of The Day, Alan Shearer called for Birmingham City to face points deductions after the assault on Aston Villa's Jack Grealish in the second-city derby.

    It was one of three incidents across England and Scotland of players being confronted by fans.

    Birmingham City apologised to Grealish and Villa immediately after the game and added it would be reviewing its stadium safety procedures.

    However, Shearer said Birmingham should face tough sanctions, including losing points and being forced to play behind closed doors.

    Police have renewed their appeal for information about a Birmingham carjacking where the thieves drove off with a four-week-old baby.

    Mother Clare O'Neill said the two men who stole her Audi "clearly knew" daughter Eliza was in the back seat when they fled the scene in Birmingham in July last year.

    Mother and daughter were reunited 45 minutes later, butMrs O'Neill was left with injuries that meant it was extremely painful for her to hold her baby.

    The incident been featured on BBC's Crimewatch Roadshow Live in a fresh bid to find the perpetrators.

    A new £33m university campus in Coventry has opened for business this morning.

    CU Coventry on Mile Lane comes complete with laboratories, open space classrooms and even its own mock-up courtroom.

    Associate pro vice chancellor Jackie Mathers said the development "brings a completely new, modern, light and vibrant space" for the university's 4,000 students.

    A Birmingham City fan has pleaded guilty to assaulting Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish during Sunday's derby.

    Paul Mitchell, 27, of Rubery, Worcestershire, had been charged with encroachment on to the pitch and assault.

    He gave his plea at Birmingham Magistrates' Court earlier.

    The court also heard how Mr Mitchell's relatives have had to leave their home due to online threats following his arrest.

    The organiser of an event set up to help find a stem cell donor for a Worcester boy said she was "overwhelmed" by the turnout.

    Oscar Saxelby-Lee, five, needs a transplant within three months of his chemotherapy or his chances of survival will "severely diminish".

    More than 1,000 were swabbed at an event in Worcester on Saturday on top of the 5,000 tested the previous weekend.

    "It's fantastic to see how many people care," said organiser Louise White.

    The family of a former Ironbridge power station worker who has terminal cancer are calling for an inquiry after discovering other former workers have the disease.

    The family of 49-year-old Warren Bufton from Dawley, worked at Ironbridge for 15 years and was diagnosed with three brain tumours as well as cancer of the kidney and spine last summer.

    His sister-in-law Tess Bellingham says she believes there were up to 20 other cases and thinks they need investigating to see if there's a link.

    According to charity Cancer Research, 50% of people born after 1960 will be diagnosed with cancer at some point in their lifetime, external.

    The power station has been out of use since 2015 and a three-year demolition process was due to start in 2018.

    British sports car maker Morgan said it hoped to double production over the next three years after being to be sold to an Italian venture capitalist firm.

    The Morgan family, which has owned the company for 110 years, will retain a minority shareholding, with the management team and staff also keeping a share of the business.

    While the often wooden bodywork is made in Malvern, Morgan engines are made further afield.

    Chief executive Steve Morris said about 30,000 people made the trip to its Malvern factory every year, and investment would be made into its visitor centre.

    A new CCTV system is being installed in Telford in a bid to improve security across the borough.

    The 250 cameras, costing more than £445,000, have been funded by Telford and Wrekin Council, West Mercia Police and the area's Police and Crime Commissioner.

    The new system, including high-definition and mobile cameras, will go live later this year and will see the cameras feed footage wirelessly to a new monitoring suite to be built at Malinsgate Police Station.

    It is hoped that the new system will help police tackle anti-social behaviour hotspots.

    Police and Crime Commissioner John Campion said the new system would be "a visible deterrent to crime and secure vital evidence where crime does occur".

    Plans for a £3m new arts venue in Wolverhampton have moved a step closer after they were approved by councillors.

    Bosses at The Grand Theatre want to build a new pop-up theatre on the site of the former Post Office on Lichfield Street.

    A five-vehicle crash has closed the B4084 in Worcestershire, with one person having to be cut free from the wreckage.

    Emergency services were called to the scene, near to the Plough and Harrow pub in Drakes Broughton, shortly after 08:30,

    One patient was treated at the scene, said the ambulance service, and one taken to hospital suffering injuries not thought to be serious.

    Video footage posted on social media of a man being restrained by police officers is currently being reviewed, said West Midlands Police.

    It prompted a backlash on social media, with some criticising the officers involved, although others leapt to their defence.

    The force's professional standards department will consider whether the matter needs to be referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.

  16. Testing starts on new 50m poolpublished at 09:49 Greenwich Mean Time 11 March 2019

    The first drops of water are set to be poured into Coventry's new 50m pool for its first phase of testing.

    The pool, which is being constructed at the Alan Higgs Centre, is set to open later this year.

    The precautionary testing will involve millions of litres of water being poured into the pool over a five-day period to ensure it is watertight.
