The No Outsiders programme at Parkfield Community School in Birmingham has been paused after protests by parents.

Some parents claim the lessons, which cover a range of equality issues, are age-inappropriate and incompatible with Islam.

Ofsted has previously said the lessons were being delivered in an age-appropriate way.

Hazel Pulley, chief executive officer of the trust which runs the school, told the BBC this week that some staff had lost weight and were not sleeping.

    Quote Message

I am not happy with the approach being taken in the way of protests - I think there is a healthier way. We need to sit down and we need to negotiate - these are very sensitive issues. There is a lot of misinformation - we need to put out a clearer picture to the parents."

BBC Asian Network has spoken to groups who have said hundreds of Muslim parents are preparing to demonstrate against the lessons which will be compulsory next year.

Now, the BBC's learnt campaigners unhappy with the plans have been urging parents in places such as Manchester and Bradford to contact their schools and find out how they intend to teach the new lessons.
