    A man opened fire with a shotgun inside a Coventry pub on Saturday afternoon, police say.

    The blast caused damage to the windows of the Tiger Moth pub in the Willenhall area of the city, but no-one was injured.

    A group of men pulled up in a car outside, at about 15:15, West Midlands Police said, before one ran into the entrance area and discharged the weapon.

    Det Insp John Kiteley said: "It’s not clear if there was an intended target or if the offender carried out the shooting as an act of intimidation."

    A car believed to have been used in the shooting was later recovered by police in Ridgethorpe and has been seized for forensic analysis.

    Detectives say they are still trying to work out how a baby died after its body was found last month.

    A 15-year-old girl from Ross-on-Wye was arrested after the discovery in the town on 24 March.

    The force says it was initially called out to reports of concern for the welfare of a newborn baby at the property and they found the body.

    The death is being treated as suspicious and the teenager's been released on bail while officers continue to investigate.

    Three scouting facilities in Coventry have been broken into and vandalised over the weekend.

    The toilet block at one site, in Rough Close, was destroyed and windows were smashed at two other sites in the Radford area of the city.

    County Commissioner for scouting in the city, Andrew Morris said he'd been left completely shocked by the "atrocious" behaviour.

    "Scouting is self-funding and completely led by volunteers".

    "To say I am absolutely gutted is an understatement," he added.

    Six teenagers have set off on an 82-mile walk, raising money for a mental health charity.

    The six pupils from South Staffordshire College in Lichfield are walking from Sutton Coldfield to the Peak District over five days.

    They're also trying to raise awareness about the issue of men's mental health which they say isn't talked about as much as it should be.

    The West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) looks set to provide more than £30m in funding to Coventry to help with preparations to host the UK City of Culture in 2021, it has been revealed.

    The funding, which was revealed in papers from the authority’s Investment Board.

    A total of £31.6m is sought from the WMCA to make up the £44.83m project, with the remaining funding being raised locally.

    “The programme aims to get Coventry "city ready" to welcome millions of visitors during 2021 and maximise the benefits of this fantastic accolade for the city and wider region to create a lasting impact,” the papers state.

    Families of the victims of the Birmingham pub bombings say they are still determined to see those responsible brought to justice.

    In all, 21 people were killed in two explosions in the city in November 1974.

    Speaking at the end of the inquests on Friday, Julie Hambleton, whose sister Maxine died in the bombings, said, "this is just the beginning".

    A four-year-old boy pulled from a river with life-threatening injuries is expected to make a full recovery, police say.

    The boy was airlifted to hospital after being recovered from the River Wye in Hereford shortly after 10:00 on Thursday.

    He has almost returned to full health, says West Mercia Police.

    It is not being treated as a criminal investigation, according to the force.

    A man was stabbed in the leg during a carjacking in Birmingham yesterday, police say.

    The driver of a black Seat Ibiza was stabbed, and his two passengers assaulted, by a group of men who demanded they got out of the car.

    The offenders made off in the vehicle after the assault on Hillmead Road, at about 19:30, officers say.

    The driver was taken to hospital with injuries not believed to be life-threatening.

    The A5 and A49 junction in Shropshire, parts of the M6 in Merseyside and M40 in Oxfordshire were the most affected.

    Delays at the Preston Island, in Shrewsbury, have proved the most costly in England. Congestion there since a major revamp has cost the local economy £2.5m, Highways England says.

    The RAC said it was "very disappointing" but some schemes had led to fewer road casualties.

    Jaguar Land Rover is to shut down production for a week because of uncertainties around Brexit.

    It will affect thousands of staff at Castle Bromwich, Solihull and Wolverhampton in the West Midlands, and Halewood on Merseyside, from Monday.

    The shutdown is in addition to a scheduled closure the following week for Easter.

    Unite the union said the move was agreed in January when the UK was due to leave the EU on 29 March.

    Union members at a number of colleges in the West Midlands are taking industrial action this week in a row over pay.

    Members of the University and College Union (UCU) will be on the picket line at the City of Wolverhampton College for thee days, starting Monday.

    Striking staff at Coventry College will take action at two sites from 08:00 on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and at Warwickshire College Group UCU members will be strike across seven sites on Monday and Tuesday.

    They say college bosses have failed to make a decent pay offer and address workloads.

    City of Wolverhampton College says the union is seeking a substantial increase in pay for all staff, which the college simply can't afford - but adds discussions with the union will continue.

    Officers are continuing to hunt a man who is suspected of stabbing a woman and ramming a police car.

    Cameron Pace is wanted after a 23-year-old woman was stabbed in her stomach at a house in Tipton on Friday morning.

    He was seen by officers driving a car in Brick Kiln Lane in the town on Saturday night, but rammed the police car in an attempt to escape before fleeing on foot.

    The stabbing, which happened in Queens Road at about 11:15, was being treated as a domestic incident and Mr Pace was known to the victim.
