    A shot has been fired towards a house in Coventry, police say.

    It's believed a black Ford Focus approached the property, in Meadfoot Road, Willenhall, before a person shot at the door.

    The residents of the property had moved out, said West Midlands Police, so no-one was injured.

    The attack happened at about 20:30 on Saturday.

    The number of police officers working for the West Mercia force will reach a seven-year high by the end of the year, its police and crime commissioner (PCC) has pledged.

    This year, John Campion increased the police precept, the portion of council tax that goes to the local police force, to pay for 115 new officers. , external

    He said the force was "well ahead" of recruiting that number this year and, on top of an extra 100 already promised, would bring the number of officers to 2,145, the most since 2012.

    The figure includes an extra 10 officers for Evesham and Droitwich.

    Mountain bikers have pledged to "work with the community" after complaints over unofficial trails at a Shropshire beauty spot.

    John Bellis, of Eastridge Trail Partnership (ETP) said a public meeting had "opened lines of communication" between users of Eastridge Woods, near Snailbeach.

    "The ETP hope that this is the first step in a better relationship between all trail users," he said.

    Forestry England called Friday night's meeting at Snailbeach Village Hall as it said some unofficial trails dug into the woods were creating "hazards" for walkers and wildlife.

    The ETP looks after official trails and stressed any new ones must be agreed with Forestry England.

    Mr Bellis and Patrick Marks, who edits monthly newsletter Snailbeach District News, both described the meeting as "passionate" and well attended.

    High Street in Bridgnorth remains closed due to a suspected gas leak.

    The one-way road, the main shopping street in the town, is closed from Church Street to St Marys Street.

    Police officers and fire crews are at the scene, with shops and restaurants evacuated, according to local resident Robin Greenwell.

    "I was in a local coffee shop on the High Street shortly after 14:30," he said, "when suddenly we were all asked to leave".

    "We were then made to go to the extreme end of the High Street," he said.

    "Officers are stopping anyone from walking down the street, and people have been told they cannot return to their vehicles park on the street until the incident is over."

    The evacuation was "well ordered," he said, adding that he hadn't been able to smell gas from where he was.

    Residents are being asked to avoid the area.

    Coventry MP Geoffrey Robinson says allegations that he passed secrets to a Czech intelligence officer, more than 50 years ago, are "a lie".

    The Mail on Sunday says the claims, external are contained in 390 pages of files compiled by the StB security service in Cold War Czechoslovakia and now administered by the Czech Republic's state security archives.

    A spokesperson for Mr Robinson told the BBC in a statement: "The allegations allegedly made by the Czech authorities are a lie.

    "At no time did Mr Robinson ever pass confidential government documents or information to any foreign agent and he did not have access to such material."

    In a further statement given to the BBC, Mr Robinson's spokesperson said: "The Mail on Sunday have sent Mr Robinson a one page document written by the Czech authorities but every key fact in this document about Mr Robinson is wrong.

    "It is wrong about his then job (he was never secretary to Mr Denis Healey) and about his date of birth - and when it refers to the activities of Mr Robinson the document itself states 'these moments were neither proven nor clarified'."

    A boy with a particularly aggressive form of leukaemia is starting treatment today to prepare him for a stem cell transplant.

    Five-year-old Oscar Saxelby-Lee, from Worcester, was told he needed a transplant within three months of chemotherapy otherwise his chances of survival would "severely diminish".

    In March, he was found to be free of leukaemia blast cells and three three stem cell matches were found for him after thousands of people signed up to be tested.

    A man's been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after a fatal crash near Telford.

    West Mercia Police said a man in his 20s died in the collision near Woodgeen Farm, Redhill on Sunday and a woman and another man were also hurt.

    The 29-year-old man they arrested is still in custody.

    BBC Radio Stoke understands he has completed a medical and agreed terms with the club.

    Two men found guilty of trying to get into Islamic State-controlled Syria to commit terrorist acts have been jailed for 14 years.

    Hanzalah Patel, 23 and Safwaan Mansur, 23, were arrested at an Istanbul hotel in June 2017 after contacting a US agent posing as an IS sympathiser.

    The pair, who denied preparation of terrorist acts, claimed the talk was just "thoughts and banter".

    Patel, from Leicester, and Mansur, from Birmingham, were given 14 years in prison at Birmingham Crown Court.

    They were also sentenced to 12 months on extended licence.
