    People came from across the country, including husband and wife Tony and Jennifer Holdcroft from Stoke-on-Trent.

    The pair, who describe themselves as "proud Brexiteers", said they made the trip down "to welcome the president and combat the protesters".

    "We think he's a brilliant man," said Mrs Holdcroft. "He's straight talking, he's firm and he looks after his own people.

    "This visit is about friendship, which we've had for years and years, and keeping up the alliance."

    A large fire at a beauty spot on the Cheshire-Staffordshire border, external is being fought by fire crews from both counties.

    Cheshire Fire Service said crews were first called at 14:45 to reports of the fire in Heatheride, Mow Cop, near Biddulph, and found a blaze covering 600 sq m (718 sq yds).

    But they said in strong winds, it quickly spread to 1,800 sq m (2,153 sq yds) and the wind speed's hampering their efforts.

    The closure of Birmingham's Tom's Kitchen is just the latest high-profile restaurant to close in the city.

    It revealed the move last week after being confronted by disappointed and often confused restaurant-goers on Twitter.

    It said it had been forced to make the "unfortunate decision" to shut in Birmingham and at London's Canary Wharf, and hoped its "awesome" staff would "find new positions quickly".

    There seems to be no reference to the deli's closure in the Mailbox on the restaurant chain's website, but on social media it asked diners to contact it by email.

    In a short statement issued on Friday, the firm said the Mailbox and the operators of Tom’s Kitchen were "in discussions and we hope to be able to provide an update soon".

    Last month, Jamie's Italian in Birmingham was one of 22 Jamie Oliver restaurants to shut as several chains went into administration.

    More than 100,000 people attended the MotoFest event in Coventry this weekend, according to organisers.

    About 90,000 attended on Saturday, and despite rain on Sunday there were about 50,000 extra visitors to the city.

    James Nobel, director of the festival, said the free two-day event added about £10m to the local economy.

    "It's funded entirely independently and privately," he said. "The council obviously put a lot of resource into it", he added, but for the event to "go forward" the team would have to "tap into new investment streams".

    A man who police say carried out a "sickening" attack on a vulnerable woman with dementia in a nursing home has been jailed.

    David Debney, of Grosvenor Road, Aston attacked Denise Crowton in her room at The Ridings Nursing Home in Castle Vale, leaving her with "horrific" facial injuries, police said.

    The 24-year-old then went on to threaten and assault three members of staff during the assault in 2017.

    At Birmingham Crown Court on Friday he was jailed for 12 years after admitting three counts of assault and being found guilty of wounding.

    Three shopping centres in Shrewsbury are now worth £11m less than the £51m Shropshire Council paid for them last year, according to a recent valuation.

    In January 2018, the local authority bought the Darwin, Pride Hill and Riverside centres with the aim of making the town a "destination" and saving jobs.

    But leader Peter Nutting's revealed they've been recently valued at £11m less - however, he said he was still pleased with how they were performing.

    The council also said refurbishment work on the middle level of the Darwin centre would start this autumn with new lighting, flooring, ceiling design and refurbished toilets., external

    Its plan for the three centres includes more leisure facilities and fewer retail spaces.
