    Fallen trees across Warwickshire and Worcestershire have caused disruption with more rain forecast throughout the day.

    Fallen trees affected Metro services between Birmingham and Wolverhampton and the A34 at Monks' Heath in Cheshire was partially blocked near the Capesthorne Hall turn

    Met Office meteorologist Alex Burkill said the UK was in for "some treacherous weather".

    The yellow warnings are in place until 12:00 on Thursday.

  3. Cystic fibrosis drug campaign heard in Parliamentpublished at 10:52 British Summer Time 11 June 2019

    A West Midlands MP has called on the government to do more to allow people with cystic fibrosis to get access to the "life-changing" drug, Orkambi.

    It has been licensed in the UK since 2015, but is not widely available on the NHS because of a dispute over cost with the US manufacturer, Vertex.

    Speaking in a special Commons debate, independent MP Ian Austin pointed to the example of Carly Jeavons of Dudley, who'd participated in a clinical trial in 2014.

    He told MPs that before the trial she was taking 90 tablets every day, but still only had less than half a normal lung capacity.

    But, he added that Ms Jeavons said "Orkambi has changed my life", with her health remaining stable and hospital visits reduced.

    Paramedics attended a construction site in central Birmingham where a man has been injured while working six or seven storeys up.

    The man suffered a leg injury and the ambulance team worked with the fire service to get him down.

    Crews were initially called to the scene, near Broad Street, opposite the entrance to the Hyatt Regency, shortly before 08:40.

    A man in his 40s had fallen over while working at height, the ambulance service said.

  5. Specialist cleaning equipment used on diesel spillpublished at 10:06 British Summer Time 11 June 2019

    About 300 litres of diesel has leaked onto the carriageway of Linley Lane, Alsager, after a crash involving a lorry and a van, the fire service says.

    An LGV was "significantly damaged" causing the fuel to leak onto the roadway and into drains, said Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service, but no-one was seriously hurt.

    The crash happened shortly after 04:30 between Lawton Crossroads and the A34 at Talke.

    Specialist environmental equipment is being used to clean the road, which is expected to remain closed throughout the morning.

    Today, the mother of his victims has said she's been told he's been released from prison.

    The mother of three young children murdered by babysitter David McGreavy says their killer has been released from prison.

    David McGreavy killed Elsie Urry's children, Paul Ralph, four, Dawn, two, and nine-month-old Samantha at their home in Worcester in 1973.

    In December, it emerged McGreavy had been cleared for release from prison.

    Speaking to BBC Hereford and Worcester Ms Urry said she found out about the release this morning from her victim support officer.

    She said she felt "terrible".

    "All she's told me is that he's been released, he's got a tag, and he's got to abide by certain rules that they've give him - other than that I don't really know".

    "It's still not fair that he's been released for what he's done."

    Trains between Birmingham New Street and Rugby may be delayed by up to 30 minutes or cancelled while services return to normal.

    The road from A34 Newcastle Road to B5077 Crewe Road is expected to remain closed throughout the morning.

    A flood alert has been issued for the Upper Teme in Shropshire, with flooding of roads and farmland possible, says the Environment Agency.

    Locations that may be affected include Bishops Castle, Church Stretton, Knighton and Ludlow.

    Walkers are advised to avoid using low-lying footpaths near local watercourses.

    A Birmingham man who was one of six brothers in his family infected by contaminated blood given to him by the NHS will today give evidence to the national inquiry into the scandal.

    Thousands of people were infected with hepatitis C and HIV during treatment in the 1970s and '80s.

    Victims are telling a public inquiry how their lives have been ruined.

    John Cornes, from Kings Heath, was infected by Hepatitis C while being treated for haemophilia.

    Three of his brothers were infected with HIV and died in the 1990s.

    Another brother, who was also infected by Hepatitis C, died two years ago.

    The Met Office said parts of Warwickshire, Staffordshire and Birmingham and the Black Country are set to be most affected, with rain and thunderstorms likely to continue throughout the week.
