    Burton MP Andrew Griffiths says he's spoken to the director of Kerry Foods today following the news its factory in the town is closing with the loss of all 900 jobs.

    Mr Griffiths said it was a "great shock to all workers at the site" and "this closure is no way their fault".

  3. 'Town's biggest employer' to shut factory with loss of 900 jobspublished at 09:19 British Summer Time 25 June 2019

    Kerry Foods factory in Burton-upon-Trent, Staffordshire is set to close with the loss of all 900 jobs.

    Unite the union described the move as a "crushing blow" for the area.

    Regional officer Rick Coyle said: "This is a calamity for Burton as KerryFoods is the town's biggest employer.

    "It is heartbreaking for the workforce, their families and, more widely, a crushing blow for the regional economy.

  4. Three people injured, one seriously, in crashpublished at 08:37 British Summer Time 25 June 2019

    A crash involving a pedestrian and a vehicle has closed the A46 in Beckford, Worcestershire.

    Three people are currently being treated at the scene, close to Cotswold Edge Leisure Vehicles Centre in Beckford, said the ambulance service, with one seriously injured.

    Emergency services were called to the scene shortly after 06:45.

    MPs will debate parental involvement in teaching later after a row over whether children should learn about LGBT relationships.

    The row, sparked by storybooks featuring different families, has caused protests outside schools in Birmingham since January.

    The adjournment debate was put forward by Hall Green MP Roger Godsiff whose constituency covers one of the schools involved.

    The BBC has approached the Labour Party for a comment about Tuesday's debate, scheduled for 19:00.

    The Party previously said Mr Godsiff's comments "do not reflect the Labour Party's position in any way and his behaviour falls below the standards expected of a Labour MP".

    He was formally reprimanded after he was seen in a video agreeing with protesters.

  7. Serious crash closes A46published at 08:02 British Summer Time 25 June 2019

    A serious crash has closed the A46 in both directions between the A435 for Teddington and A4184, Cheltenham Road, in Worcestershire.

    The road was closed by Cotswold Edge Leisure Vehicles Centre in Beckford.

  8. Thundery storms expected to bring travel disruptionpublished at 07:41 British Summer Time 25 June 2019

    Thunderstorms and heavy rain could cause travel problems throughout the morning, with a yellow warning for severe weather in place until 10:00.

    About 15 to 20mm of rain may fall in an hour, the Met Office is warning, with up to 40mm possible in a few areas.

  9. 'Despicable' crossbow attack on calvespublished at 07:29 British Summer Time 25 June 2019

    Two calves have been shot with what police believe to be a crossbow, in a "despicable attack".

    A one-month-old animal was put to sleep at the scene, off Burnthurst Lane near Princethorpe, in Warwickshire.

    Another four-month-old animal, shot in it's hindquarters, is expected to survive, said Warwickshire Police.

    It's thought the incident happened between 19:00 on Saturday and 10:00 Sunday.

    The mother of a boy with leukaemia's thanked supporters for raising more than £15,000 to support the family.

    Oscar Saxelby-Lee's family is preparing for the five-year-old to leave hospital with doctors telling his mother, Olivia Saxelby, it could be the end of July if he keeps doing well.

    He's had a stem cell transplant after about 5,000 people joined a donor register.

    The family home is being adapted so he can stay in isolation for about 18 months and Ms Saxelby's said the crowdfunding support's made a big difference.
