    Archaeologists have discovered the footings for ramparts at the Nesscliffe Hill Iron Age hill fort in Shropshire.

    It's the first time in 40 years that an excavation has been carried out there and the team say they've also found Roman-era cooking tools.

    There's a public viewing day at the hill tomorrow to show off the finds so far, and the team will be answering questions about their progress.

  3. Two arrested after man stabbed in buttocks in Hollywoodpublished at 14:10 British Summer Time 27 August 2019

    Two men have been arrested on suspicion of wounding after a man was stabbed in the buttocks.

    West Mercia Police said the victim was attacked after a night out, while walking down Alcester Road in Hollywood, Worcestershire, in the early hours of this morning.

    He was taken to hospital for treatment.

    Police say two men were seen leaving the scene in a BMW and the same vehicle was involved in a collision with a motorcyclist about 20 minutes later.

    The two arrested men, aged 31 and 34, and of no fixed address, were both injured in the crash and are being treated at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.

    The force added the motorcyclist fled the scene and a 38-year-old man wanted for other offences was later arrested on suspicion of assault and criminal damage.

    A mother says thoughts of her toddler made her fight off three masked men as they attempted to carjack her car in Birmingham.

    Amy-Leigh Hill had just picked her three-year-old son from nursery and driven onto her driveway on Oakland Road, Moseley, last month when the trio appeared, one carrying a crowbar.

    She told BBC WM she kept shouting at them that her baby was still in the car and fought back before they fled empty-handed.

    West Midlands Police said their investigation into the carjacking attempt remains ongoing.

    Two thieves have threatened shopkeepers with needles within 24 hours in separate crimes in Warwickshire.

    On Friday, a man, described as in his late 20s, stole five jars of coffee from a shop on Kem Street, Nuneaton, police said.

    In the second case the offender, said to be in his 30s, took a bottle of spirits from a store on the Kineton Road Industrial Estate, Southam, on Saturday.

    The incidents haven't been linked by detectives.

    A man's been charged with the murder , externalof a father found stabbed to death on a street.

    Hashim Khan, 37, of Birmingham, was pronounced dead after being discovered in Wilton Road, Sparkhill, on Friday night.

    The 32-year-old man is due to appear before magistrates today after West Midlands Police charged him with murder and four counts of wounding.

    The force added that a 35-year-old man found at a property with stab wounds is still in a serious condition in hospital.

    Three other men were also hurt but not seriously.

  11. Project to preserve market gardening historypublished at 12:01 British Summer Time 27 August 2019

    A two-year project is under way to record the history of market gardening in the Vale of Evesham.

    Last year, Worcestershire Archive and Archaeology Service was given £68,700 by the Heritage Lottery Fund and £5,000 from Historic England to pay for the research.

    Market gardening was once a popular activity in the area, with 1,300 plots in use at one stage, but it started to disappear mid-way through the last century.

    The money will pay for public events, educational materials, a survey and the restoration of three of the sheds used by the gardeners, known as hovels.

    Wasps say they are "shocked and deeply saddened" to hear about the death of former player Allan Isichei.

    The 69-year-old grandfather was stabbed to death after leaving a pub in West London on Saturday evening.

    The club said Allan was still working as a part-time rugby coach and played as a prop for the first-team in the 1970s and 80s before going into coaching.

    Its statement added: "Our thoughts and condolences go out to Allan’s wife Sandra, children Emma, Daniel and David, along with all his other family and friends during this difficult time."

    West Mercia Police says its focus is on "large scale dealing" and cannabis plants.

    The force added officers have discretionary powers to issue a "cannabis warning" instead of pursuing prosecution, when appropriate.

    Heavy thunderstorms in parts of Staffordshire could bring flooding and disrupt transport, we're being warned.

    The Met Office has issued a yellow weather alert, external and says there could also be damage from lightning strikes and strong winds.

    The warning runs from midday until just before midnight and covers a slice of Staffordshire which includes areas around Leek and Cheadle.

    The amount spent by West Midlands Ambulance Service on moving patients in taxis has doubled in a year, figures show.

    Freedom of Information requests by the Press Association discovered it spent £4m on them in 2018-19 compared to £2m the year before.

    The service said it was trying to reduce the figure.
