    Conservative association members in Margot James's Stourbridge constituency in the West Midlands have been told to select another candidate for any forthcoming general election, after she had the party whip withdrawn.

    In a statement on its website, the organisation said: "As there is no sitting MP in the Stourbridge constituency representing the Conservative Party, the association will be taking immediate steps in accordance with the constitution of the Conservative Party to select a prospective Conservative parliamentary candidate for Stourbridge to stand at the next parliamentary election.

    "The selection decision is a matter for members of the Stourbridge Conservative Association and an announcement will be made in due course."

    It added the association "wish to put on record their appreciation to Margot for the service she has given".

  2. Sacked MP questions PM's adviser's rolepublished at 14:50 British Summer Time 4 September 2019

    Former Conservative MP Margot James quoted Margaret Thatcher in an attack on PM Boris Johnson's special adviser Dominic Cummings.

    The member for Stourbridge was one of 21 Conservative MPs to lose the whip after defying government in a vote last night.

    Speaking during Prime Minister's Questions today she asked Mr Johnson to remember "advisers advise, ministers decide" in relation to his own adviser, Dominic Cummings, who has come in for some criticism.

    The prime minister responded without mentioning Mr Cummings, saying only: "Be in no doubt that we are deciding on a policy to take this country forward - not backwards."

    The Crewe manager, David Artell, said he had strong words with his players after last night's 3-1 EFL Trophy defeat to Burton.

    He explained: "They the know the standard, they know the expectations, they know I'm not an unreasonable guy, I think. That was unacceptable."

    The Staffordshire Moorlands MP, Karen Bradley, has asked the prime minister to commit to keeping Leek Moorlands Hospital open.

    The NHS has been consulting over the future of healthcare in the area and she said there was "understandable concern" about its future.

    Boris Johnson replied: "Of course she will understand that decisions affecting Leek Moorlands, must be led by clinicians, but I hope that a solution can be found that benefits everyone."

    Well wishes have poured in on Facebook for a six-year-old boy who has returned to school after treatment for his brain tumour over the summer holidays.

    Treatment finished early in August, so Bobby Humphries could go back school in Sheldon, Birmingham.

    On the BBC Midlands Facebook page, Carol Ann Silva posted, external: "He is such a gorgeous little boy with the most beautiful smile."

    While Chris Cartwright added, external: "Cancer treatment is so hard for an adult let alone a young lad. Well done young man, I hope you stay well for a very long time but most of all in the short term enjoy school and have fun."

    Bren King wrote, external: "Wow, awesome. Great to hear something good and what a fab picture."

    Staffordshire Police said the victim suffered serious injuries in the attack on Sefton Road, Normacot, last night.

    Officers added the four men were in a black Fiat taxi and they've since arrested two men.

    The Metropolitan Police force says it's arrested a 40-year-old man in central Birmingham this morning, on suspicion of financing terrorism.

    Officers say their counter-terrorism unit made the arrest at 07:05 and the man is now being held at a south London police station.

    A man's been jailed for five years after admitting causing death by dangerous driving following a crash which killed a 17-year-old girl.

    The victim died at the scene when the car she was a passenger in hit a wall on Tansey Green Lane, in Pensnett, Dudley, in May.

    Arthur Pinches, of High Oak, Brierley Hill, had also pleaded guilty to a second charge of dangerous driving.

    In addition, the 27-year-old was banned from driving for six and a half years.

    A man's been arrested following the death of a woman, external who was found unconscious in last night.

    The 46-year-old was discovered at an address on Burleigh Close, Willenhall, and died in hospital from her injuries, West Midlands Police said.

    The 39-year-old man's still in custody, in connection with the death, and detectives said they believe he knew the victim.

  14. Man held over Asda ball-bearing gun fearspublished at 11:50 British Summer Time 4 September 2019

    A man has been arrested at a supermarket in Stoke-on-Trent on suspicion of having a ball-bearing gun.

    Police were called to Asda on Scotia Road in Tunstall just after 07:00 and said the 21-year-old was suspected to have the gun with intent to cause fear or violence in the town.

    He is still in custody.
