A new road in Stone should reflect the town's Anglo Saxon heritage, town councillors have suggested.
Developers building homes off Whitebridge Lane have said they plan to call the street Ancestry Close, but councillor Mark Hatton said: “I wonder if there is something we could do when naming things – we have a link to the base of Mercia."
The nearby Bury Bank is thought by some to have been the ancient capital of Mercia and the town could be the final resting place of two Saxon princes, Wulfad and Rufin, who were murdered by their father Wulfhere after they converted to Christianity in the 7th Century.
Stone’s main church is named in honour of St Michael and St Wulfad and St Rufin’s Church can be found in nearby Burston.

A independent investigation into a police shooting in Birmingham last autumn has concluded it was "reasonable and proportionate".
The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) said 30-year-old Duane Thomas was taken to hospital after being shot in the arm by a firearms officer in Shepherd Gardens, Edgbaston, on 2 October.
Its report said he was carrying a pistol at the time.
Thomas was jailed for six years and four months after admitting possession of a firearm and ammunition in April this year.
The IOPC report said the officer who fired the shot was taking part in a search of a flat when the man ran out into the garden with what he believed was a handgun and that he believed the man was about to use it.

A Shropshire farmer says she's caught people pooing in her fields three times, and ordered one of them to clean up his mess.
Earlier this week, the issue made the headlines when a Nottinghamshire woman caught a suspected delivery driver defecating in an alley outside her house.
DHL said it was investigating.
Sarah Winwood, from Brick Kiln farm near Whitchurch said she had had a similar experience -not once, but on three occasions over recent years.
Most recently, she said she had found the offending item under a piece of paper she had gone to pick up thinking it was a receipt - leaving her "absolutely raving".
Mrs Winwood, who has a footpath and bridleway running through her land, said she even witnessed a walker drop his trousers and poo behind a hedge.
On another occasion, she said she confronted a workman in a high-vis vest and marched him to the scene of the crime after he initially tried to deny it.
Quote MessageI made him pick it up, he wasn't going anywhere and I certainly wasn't going anywhere until he picked it up. He'd wiped his bum and there was tissues as well."

Drug users have got so comfortable in a Stoke-on-Trent public toilet, they've put down carpet and hung a picture on the wall, it is being claimed.
Some traders and residents near the loos on Weston Road in Meir say they want the council-run loos closed down.
The toilet’s opening times have been cut in an attempt to stop people forcing their way inside to take drugs and Stoke-on-Trent City Council confirmed it had "received reports concerning anti-social behaviour and rough sleeping".
Quote MessageIt needs knocking down. It’s just housing local drug groups. At one point, they even had carpet and a picture up in there."
