Ross-on-Wye is looking for a new town crier and the town council is planning to hold auditions.
It has put aside a budget of £300 to pay for a costume and believes a town crier will be a boost for tourism.
The role would be voluntary and the successful applicant would get to perform during holidays, public events, markets and the occasional town council meeting.

A month after a fire at a Crewe retirement complex, the majority of the former residents are still waiting to find permanent accommodation.
A report to Cheshire East Council said about 100 of those people who lived at Beechmere were currently living in flats or other care homes at the moment, or with relatives.
The council's acting executive director of people, Mark Palethorpe, said its "priority is to find the right accommodation to meet the needs of those individuals”.
He also said he would like to see the complex rebuilt, but it would have to be different, because the needs of those likely to use it have changed since it was first built.
Avantage, which ran the Beechmere apartments, has already said it plans to rebuild the complex on the same site.

The Shrewsbury Town goalkeeper Max O'Leary has said their two-week break from league football has been "like a mini pre-season".
They had to postpone last weekend's match against Peterborough, because of international call-ups and the keeper, who is on loan from Bristol City said "it's been a real bonding time for us".
O'Leary also said they'd worked hard during their break and that it had given them time to get to know new signings Jason Cummings and Callum Lang.
One survivor who struggled to get support says it could have prevented more "psychological damage".

But the Warwickshire force is looking for its neighbours to meet the costs of the divorce and said: "The alliance agreement is clear that the party which terminates the agreement is liable to pay the other party’s reasonable costs."
Warwickshire Police said there was "considerable work to transition out of the current alliance arrangements".
And it said 80% of the services they had been sharing were currently based in the West Mercia force area and would have to be re-established in Warwickshire, which it said could take time.
