    Warwickshire start their penultimate County Championship match of the season this morning without the pressure of needing to avoid relegation.

    They'll play Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge over the next four days, with last week's draw against Essex having secured safety for the Bears in Division One and condemned Notts to go down.

    While in Division Two, Worcestershire will be hoping to build on their first Championship win since May as they host third-placed Gloucestershire.

    After a poor season, the Pears are near the bottom of the league and too far back now to challenge for the third promotion place.

    Train passengers are facing delays this morning between Stoke-on-Trent and Stone after a person was hit by a train.

    National Rail Enquiries said services could be delayed by up to 60 minutes or cancelled or diverted via Crewe., external

    It adds it's affecting CrossCountry, London Northwestern Railway and Virgin Trains services and is expected to last until at least 11:45.

  3. Engineers on site to mend burst water mainpublished at 10:03 British Summer Time 16 September 2019

    Severn Trent said it's working to mend a burst water main that has closed the A46 in Warwickshire.

    The main burst shortly before 03:30 it said.

    The road remains closed between Oversley Mill and Shottery, but it's hoped that one lane will reopen shortly, said the water company.

    Water supplies in the area are understood to be unaffected.

    A man has died in a crash in Wolverhampton in the early hours of today.

    The man was confirmed dead at the scene on Essington Road, Willenhall shortly after 04:10, said the ambulance service.

    The road is likely to remain closed through the morning.

    Aldi plans to open a new store in the UK every week on average for the next two years, its boss has told the BBC.

    Giles Hurley said the discount retailer, which has its UK headquarters in Atherstone Warwickshire, would invest £1bn to achieve its aim.

    "The reality is that almost 50% of the population of the UK doesn't currently shop with us and they tell us the main reason for that is that they don't have a store near us," he said.

    Aldi's pledge came as it reported a sales rise for last year, but saw profits fall sharply.

  7. Woman seriously injured in bus crashpublished at 09:11 British Summer Time 16 September 2019

    A woman has been seriously injured after being hit by a bus, police have told us.

    The pedestrian was hit shortly after 07:30 near the cross roads of Poplar Road and Warwick Road in Solihull.

    Paramedics are still at the scene.

    The street is expected to remain closed for most of the morning, police said.

  8. Serious crash closes roadpublished at 09:01 British Summer Time 16 September 2019

    A serious crash has also closed Essington Road, Willenhall in both directions.

    The crash happened shortly after 04:15, police said.

    The road between Lichfield Road and Milestone Way is likely to remain closed throughout the morning for investigations.

  9. Pedestrian hit by buspublished at 08:34 British Summer Time 16 September 2019

    A bus has hit a pedestrian in Solihull.

    Emergency services were called to Poplar Road shortly after 07:30, said the ambulance service.

    The road at the junction of Warwick Road remains closed.

    Paramedics are still at the scene, it added.

  10. Burst water main closes A46published at 08:24 British Summer Time 16 September 2019

    A burst water main has closed the A46 Alcester Road in both directions in Warwickshire.

    The road closed from A435 to A422 at Oversley Green near Stratford-upon-Avon at about 03:45.

    It's likely to remain closed throughout the morning for repairs.

  11. Car driver killed in crash with lorrypublished at 08:08 British Summer Time 16 September 2019

    A 70-year-old man from Warwickshire died when the car he was driving was involved in a collision with a lorry.

    The driver died at the scene and his passenger, a 56-year-old woman, suffered a shoulder injury, police said.

    The accident happened near Moreton-in-Marsh, at the junction of the A44 and A424, on Friday afternoon.

    The lorry driver, a 55-year-old man from the West Midlands, was not injured.

    Firefighters have spent the night at the scene of a fire involving 100 tonnes of hay.

    Sadam Essakhil wants people to avoid the mistakes that led him to kill.

    He was 15 when he murdered Lukasz Furmanek in Handsworth on 31 May 2015.

    There was no need to have been carrying a knife when the clash took a life, and left a mother without her son, he said.

    If others follow his path, they will be haunted by the thoughts of their crime while lying awake in their cell, he said.

    Essakhil is fronting an anti-knife crime campaign for West Midlands Police.
