    Staff at the Warwickshire County Council's registration service have been so moved by stories of couples who have lost their weddings they have offered to help.

    The free ceremonies are open to the first six couples to apply, and they must live in the county.

    All requests for this free offer should be made by 31 October 2019 and will be subject to availability, terms and conditions.

    The Douglas Macmillan Hospice has sent us this photo, showing the damage caused by a land slippage near it's shop in Cheadle.

    The charity said the slippage, which was caused by heavy rain damaged at least three other nearby shops and that in turn had blocked the fire exit to its own shop.

    The Dougie Mac Hospice , externalprovides all hospice services free of charge to over 3,000 patients with life-limiting illnesses each year in the North Staffordshire area.

    The shop has said the closure could cost the hospice thousands of pounds per week and has asked people to hang on to their donations until it is reopen.

    The driver of a car stuck in flood water in Worcestershire had a "very lucky escape", said the fire service.

    The vehicle became pinned to the bridge at Shell Ford in Himbleton shortly before 11:00.

    The male driver escaped uninjured.

    One man has had to be rescued after his car became stuck in flood water in Birmingham.

    Crews were called to Cotterills Lane in Washwood Heath just before 13:00.

    Crews have also pushed a vehicle out of water in Duddeston Mill Road, Nechells, rescuing two people.

    The fire service is reminding drivers not to try to drive through flood water.

    A new swimming pool and sports facilities could be built in Dudley soon.

    An extra £6.8m will be ploughed into three leisure centres in the Black Country town – if proposals are accepted by councillors next week.

    Existing buildings in Halesowen and Stourbridge will be refurbished.

    A council report says, external the design for the new Dudley Leisure Centre has been improved to meet planning requirements resulting in enhanced cladding and brickwork with a feature entrance and enhanced glazing and lighting included in the new design.

    The Birmingham-based National College for High Speed Rail is changing its name.

    From today it will be called the National College for Advanced Transport and Infrastructure.

    The college says the change is due to the need to broaden the curriculum and attract more employers to place students with them.

  11. Motorcyclist injured in crash with vanpublished at 13:13 British Summer Time 1 October 2019

    A motorcyclist has been taken to hospital after his bike crashed with a van in Coventry.

    The man in his 60s suffered multiple injuries after the crash on Queensland Avenue at the junction of Abercorn Road at about 09:50, said the ambulance service.

    A number of shops in Cheadle have been forced to close, because of a land slippage caused by the recent wet weather.

    The Douglas Macmillan Hospice said heavy rain had washed earth from neighbouring properties down hill, blocking its fire exit and other properties.

    The charity doesn't know how long it will take to clear the earth but has said the closure could cost the hospice thousands of pounds per week in lost revenue.

    Three men have been arrested on suspicion of murder and violent disorder by police investigating the death of a man stabbed outside a Coventry nightclub.

    Fidel Glasgow, grandson of The Specials singer Neville Staple, died in hospital after being found injured at the rear of Club M in Croft Road, on 1 September 2018.

    Warrants were executed this morning and the men, aged between 19 and 21, have been taken into custody, West Midlands Police said.

    Atikou Diallo, 24, was jailed in February for four and a half years for violent disorder and robbery after another 24-year-old was savagely beaten during the same incident that left Fidel with fatal injuries.

    An appeal to help a Black Country children's hospice has raised £350,00 in just over two months.

    The appeal, launched in July, is aiming to reach £2m which is needed to save the facility from closure.

    A previous funding lifeline has enabled the hospice to remain open until at least March 2020.

    A man seriously injured during a street robbery in Birmingham has died.

    Mark Lloyd was left in a critical condition after being assaulted in Aldridge Road, Perry Barr on 12 September.

    The 39-year-old from Kingstanding died in hospital on Sunday.

    A 23-year-old woman who was previously charged with robbery has been rearrested on suspicion of murder and taken into police custody for questioning.

    A 26-year-old man remanded in custody accused of robbery will also be questioned in relation to murder.
