  3. Can the world's largest HMV store work in a digital age?published at 11:46 British Summer Time 11 October 2019

BBC News Online readers have been commenting on whether the world's largest HMV store, opening in Birmingham today, can work.

MC100 writes: "I think there is still demand for physical music, but not enough in each town/city to warrant a dedicated shop. A centralised massive music warehouse that stocks everything sounds like a great idea and will surely attract people from all over, whether they visit in person or order online."

Aardvark remarks: "At last!! A retailer offering something new. I'm old enough to remember popping into a record store just to hear something new and asking the assistants to play something I'd recently heard which they almost always could. Hats off HMV!"

And CJ made the comment: "This seems completely opposed to the direction of travel for the rest of the market. Why would I pay for a streaming service and then go and buy an album I've basically already paid to listen to? And even if I were to buy an album I'm more likely to buy it digitally or at least online for less money. For the sake of the staff I hope this works but I am very sceptical."
