    Work to repair Hanley bus station in Stoke-on-Trent starts today, with the city council promising to keep disruption to a minimum during the 12 weeks, external.

    The local authority said investigations revealed problems with how some of the window panels were installed when Hanley bus station was built, less than 10 years ago.

    Construction firm Vinci, which was awarded the contract to build the bus station in 2011, will begin work today to fix the issue.

    While the work is not expected to result in any bus cancellations, some buses might need to be redirected to other stands within the bus station, it added.

    There are 30 minute delays on the approach to a crash on the M6 near Wednesbury in Birmingham.

    Two lanes are closed on the southbound carriageway from J9 to J8.

    Congestion is spanning 4.5 miles back to J10A for the M54, said Highways England, external.

    Knife crime in Warwickshire has been increasing faster than in London, figures show.

    New figures obtained by the BBC have shown the scale of knife crime across England and Wales with the number of recorded cases rising by two thirds between 2014 and 2018.

    The increase has been fastest in areas such as Warwickshire, Surrey, North and West Wales and Norfolk.

    Birmingham is one of nine areas outside London with the highest number of knife crimes.

    Data from 34 out of 43 police forces reveals almost half of suspects are under the age of 24.

    The Home Office says 20,000 new police officers will be recruited over the next three years to help tackle violent crime.

    Officers are continuing to question two teenagers in connection with the death of a man found with stab wounds.

    Robert Burgess, 37, was found after police were called to a property in Coventry on Thursday.

    West Midlands Police said two boys, both aged 17, are being held on suspicion of murder.

    A 19-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman are being questioned on suspicion of assisting an offender.

    This win, in their 17th match of a campaign which began on 25 July, leaves them four points off a top-four spot.

    In the past 12 months, they have now beaten all of the 'big six' in the Premier League apart from Liverpool, who they knocked out of last season's FA Cup.

    It is 20 years since Wolves last beat City away from Molineux and 40 since they did so in the top flight.

    Crews are tackling a fire at a derelict building in Bilston.

    The fire involves the first floor and roof of a two-storey building in Mount Pleasant. Firefighters were first called out just after midnight and are still at the scene.

    A man attacked and stabbed more than once outside a pub last night has suffered life-threatening injuries.

    Police said they were called to reports of disorder outside the Flower Pot pub in West Bromwich.

    A 24-year-old man was attacked and had multiple stab wounds, they said.

    An area of Spon Lane was closed for a time for a forensic investigation.

    Officers are asking for any witnesses to come forward.

    A points failure, external between Cheltenham Spa and Worcester Shrub Hill is causing disruption to trains between these stations, the National Rail Enquiries website reports.

    Trains may be cancelled, delayed or revised.

    CrossCountry services to and from Birmingham and Great Western Railway services to Worcester could be affected.

  10. Rapper Krept 'good' after assault at Arena Birminghampublished at 07:23 British Summer Time 7 October 2019

    Leading grime musician Krept has insisted he's feeling "good" despite being slashed backstage at a BBC 1Xtra concert.

    He was treated by staff at Arena Birmingham and didn't need to go to hospital.

    He tweeted on Sunday: "Can't keep a good man down."

    West Midlands Police are looking at CCTV from inside the venue, speaking with potential witnesses and appealing for information about what happened. Forensic investigations are also continuing.
