    The firm's customer experience director Colin Lea said the rain on the weekend had been "astonishing".

    The Met Office said more than 4in (100mm) of rain fell in 24 hours in some places.

    Damage to the line in Herefordshire has stopped the direct north-south route.

    Track at Pontrilas was washed away, affecting all services using the railway between Hereford and Abergavenny.

    Residents and businesses in Ironbridge are bracing themselves for a surge in the river level after heavy rain over the weekend.

    A flood warning has been issued for the River Severn at Ironbridge and Jackfield.

    River levels are expected to continue to rise over the next day or so, said the Environment Agency.

    The river is expected to peak on Tuesday morning.

    Flood defences in Ironbridge are "doing their job," the Environment Agency said, and some of those barriers are expected to be extended.

    The river level is yet to peak at the Buildwas river gauge, where about 470 tonnes of water a second is passing through it, Chris Bainger, from the Environment Agency said.

    "We've had the barriers up a number of occasions in Ironbridge," he said, "this is the most I've seen for a long time against these."

    "We have had higher, and it's important to say we have defences, we put them in and we have this under control."

    Two men had to be rescued in Nantwich at the weekend as they were in danger of being swept away in the flooded River Weaver.

    Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said the rescues happened within minutes of each other on Saturday, with the first man "hanging on to the bridge" in fast-flowing water near Waterlode., external

    Dozens of people have been rescued and rail services and roads remain heavily disrupted after the weekend's rain and flooding in Herefordshire and Worcestershire.

    The fire service says it was called to 130 incidents between Friday morning and 07:00 today with "the majority being flooding-related".

    In Hereford, at least 20 homes were flooded and residents at a care home had to be rescued.

    The Environment Agency says the River Wye in Hereford is at its highest since October 1998 while the River Teme in Worcestershirereached its highest level since 2007. , external

    River levels in Shrewsbury have peaked at 4.06m, said the Environment Agency.

    Thirteen flood warnings and 12 flood alerts remain in place across Shropshire after Saturday's heavy downpours.

    The surge of water is now making its way downstream to Ironbridge, where barriers are in place, said Chris Bainbridge, from the Environment Agency, before heading to Bridgnorth.

    Fields were turned into a torrent near the town over the weekend as the River Teme broke it's banks after heavy rain.

    The river reached its highest level since 2007 said the Environment Agency.

    There are road closures in place across parts of Stafford due to flood water.

    People had to be rescued from their homes, cars, and fast-flowing water this weekend after the River Sow broke it's banks.

    One Bengal Lounge Indian restaurant owner Farooq Hussain said he was been pumping water from the cellar for almost 24 hours.

    "I keep pumping it out and it keeps refilling," he said.

    The business has been running 51 years, he said, and it's only happened once before.

    Flooding is still affecting roads across Shropshire, Herefordshire, Staffordshire, Warwickshire and Worcestershire.

    In Hereford at least 20 homes were flooded over the weekend and residents at a care home had to be rescued.

    Rail services have also been affected and part of a track at Pontrilas, Herefordshire, has been washed away by flash floods.

    Replacement bus services are running between Hereford and Newport with tickets being accepted on CrossCountry services.

    The line is expected to remain closed all week.

    River levels at some points on the Wye at Hereford have been the highest since records began.

    A level of 6.21m was recorded at Belmont on Sunday, which is the highest since records began in 1970, said the Environment Agency.

    A level of 5.52m was recorded at Old Wye Bridge, the highest level since October 1998.
