  2. Woman attacked on streetpublished at 09:07 Greenwich Mean Time 29 November 2019

    A woman has been injured in an attempted robbery in Bedworth, police say.

    She was attacked by an unknown man as she walked on Nuneaton Road at about 05:45 on Wednesday.

    The woman, in her 50s, was treated for facial injuries, said Warwickshire Police.

    The assailant then left on foot, empty-handed.

    A musical of David Walliams's first book, The Boy in The Dress, had its premiere in Stratford-upon-Avon last night.

    The story follows a 12-year-old boy called Dennis, who discovers he likes to wear dresses.

    Friend and fellow X-Factor judge Robbie Williams, who created the songs for the show, joined him at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre.

  4. Baby death murder suspects releasedpublished at 08:44 Greenwich Mean Time 29 November 2019

    Two people arrested on suspicion of murdering a seven-week-old boy have been released under investigation.

    Police were called to a report of a baby in cardiac arrest by paramedics at a property in Derwent Street, Cobridge, Stoke-on-Trent, on Tuesday.

    Emergency services attended just before 21:00 but he died in hospital a few hours later. His death is being treated as "unexplained," police said.

    A 49-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman have been released, said Staffordshire Police.

    A post mortem has taken place and the results are inconclusive meaning further tests are required.

  5. Strikes set to cause more train disruptionpublished at 08:20 Greenwich Mean Time 29 November 2019

    Passengers are again being warned of "significant disruption" to rail services as union members stage further strikes on Saturday.

    The RMT union said the strikes on West Midlands Trains routes were "over plans by the company to bulldoze through driver-only operation".

    West Midlands Trains said it was determined to resolve the dispute.

    The firm has previously said it had "never proposed driver only operation" and added, that it was "committed to keeping a safety-critical conductor on every passenger train".

    Some parts of the network will have no trains running, including these routes:

    • Wolverhampton to Shrewsbury
    • Kidderminster to Hereford
    • Hereford to Bromsgrove
    • Whitlocks End to Stratford-upon-Avon
    • Stratford-upon-Avon to Dorridge
    • Dorridge to Leamington Spa
    • Walsall to Rugeley Trent Valley
    • Rugby and Crewe via Nuneaton to Rugeley Trent Valley
    • Crewe to Stafford via Stoke-on-Trent

    West Midlands Trains warned the industrial action is expected to affect every Saturday until the end of December.

    The pair were held by police investigating a seven-week-old boy's death in Cobridge, Stoke-on-Trent.

    Nuno Espirito Santo's side were top of the group briefly as goals from Jimenez, Doherty and Traore gave them a 3-1 lead but the Portuguese side fought back and also qualify.

    "We are trying to develop and improve and to achieve other results. We don't have limits, we always try to keep going," said Nuno, who has been linked with Arsenal.

    "We always want to compete, the momentum doesn't mean anything. It was our 26th game, we started very early in the season, but the balance has been good and the team is improving."

    Extra compensation's being promised to West Midlands Trains passengers after weeks of delays, cancellations and strike action.

    Earlier this month, the BBC learnt the number of compensation claims from passengers was currently 10 times higher than average.

    Figures show 32,000 Delay Repay claims were made in the last month, with about 50% covering half-term week.

    This evening, West Midlands Trains, said the compensation would be on top of the Delay Replay scheme , externaland it would reveal "very shortly" how passengers would get it.

  17. Peacocks set to rescue Bonmarché from collapsepublished at 18:38 Greenwich Mean Time 28 November 2019

    Bonmarché, the womenswear retailer that fell into administration in October, is set to be rescued by rival Peacocks.

    However, 30 Bonmarché stores are expected to close by 11 December, the administrators said, putting up to 240 jobs at risk.

    Peacocks has been named the "preferred bidder" for the business, although further negotiations are needed before the deal is secured.

    There are a number of stores across the West Midlands including Coventry, Dudley, Solihull, West Bromwich, Nuneaton and several in Birmingham.

    The firm has not yet revealed which stores will shut, although several, like Dudley and Coventry, are already featuring closing down sales.

  18. Scheme aims to stop eels getting into drinking water pipespublished at 18:28 Greenwich Mean Time 28 November 2019

    Screens are going to be installed in rivers across the West Midlands to stop eels and other wildlife being sucked into pipes used to produce drinking water.

    Severn Trent's spending £15m on the equipment , externalin 13 locations, starting on the River Severn near Upton-upon-Severn and then other places on the Avon, Tame, Derwent, Dove and Leam waterways.

    The firm says they'll be placed at intakes where they pump up raw water before it's then processed for safe drinking.

    The work should be finished by March 2021.
