    A teenager has suffered a head injury after an assault in Coventry city centre.

    Emergency services were called to Stoney Stanton Road just after 14:00 on Wednesday, said the ambulance service.

    The 17-year-old boy was taken to hospital suffering potentially serious injuries, it added.

  2. Babies death scandal hospital boss apologises to familiespublished at 15:09 Greenwich Mean Time 28 November 2019

    The boss of Shrewsbury and Telford Trust has apologised to families after a leaked report revealed that an inquiry into baby deaths was now considering up to 800 cases, many alleging serious errors at the trust.

    The review, which covers as far back as 1979, is being led by maternity expert Donna Ockenden.

    The surge in new cases follows the leak of an interim report last week which said the deaths occurred amid a "toxic" culture stretching back 40 years.

    Paula Clark, interim Chief Executive of SaTH said some families had suffered "life-changing situations".

    She said the trust was "moving forward" but acknowledged it "wasn't there yet".

    Despite that, she said a new culture of transparency was in place and staff would be held accountable for their actions.

    A young farmer has called for the next government to help the industry bring in new technology to improve efficiency.

    Will Roobottom, from Staffordshire Young Farmers, also called on politicians to help ensure there was a long-term future for the sector, particularly for those entering the profession often facing huge set-up costs.

    The 23-year-old is in the final year of a farming business degree course at Harper Adams University in Shropshire.

    A man found with a stab wound in Coventry on Wednesday was taken to hospital suffering injuries not thought to be serious, said the ambulance service.

    Paramedics were called to Croft Road in the city centre shortly after 18:00.

    Officers are asking for anyone with information to contact them.

    TSB has revealed which of its 82 branches it will close in 2020, with 13 set to shut in the West Midlands.

    Earlier this week, the bank announced there would be closures as part of a plan by new chief executive Debbie Crosbie to make £100m of savings by 2022.

    A man in his 50s has fallen into roadworks, breaking his ankle.

    He was helped out by firefighters, who said the hole, at Bomere Heath in Shropshire, was about one-metre-deep, with mud at the bottom.

    It happened at around 18:20 on Windsor Lane and the man was taken to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital for treatment.

    A book has been written about a bald hedgehog who was cared for by an animal centre after he lost his spikes.

    Bear was taken to Cuan Wildlife Rescue in Much Wenlock after being found in a garden in Madeley and was treated with massages in a bid to grow them back.

    Bear initially made a recovery, but was put to sleep in April after his condition deteriorated.

    The book is being launched at the Much Wenlock Christmas Fair a week on Saturday.

  17. Blue Story: Vue set to rescreen banned filmpublished at 11:58 Greenwich Mean Time 28 November 2019

    A cinema chain is looking at "beefing up security" to bring back a film it banned, the company's boss has said.

    Vue had banned the film after saying there had been 25 serious incidents in 16 of its cinemas, over a 24-hour period.

    But its chief executive, Tim Richards, said it was now looking at "beefing up security" to restart screenings of Blue Story.

    The film's director, Rapman, questioned whether there were "hidden reasons" for the ban.

    Rapman, whose real name is Andrew Onwubolu, previously told the BBC there was "no connection" between his movie and the brawl in Birmingham, which led to five arrests.

    Detectives investigating the death of a seven-week-old baby boy have arrested a 49-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman on suspicion of murder

    Police were called by West Midlands Ambulance Service to a report of a child in cardiac arrest at an address on Derwent Street in Cobridge at 21:00 on Tuesday.

    Staffordshire Police said the child was taken to hospital where he sadly died a few hours later.

    The death is currently being treated as unexplained and a post-mortem examination is due to take place.
