    The star of a film pulled from some cinemas after a brawl at an entertainment complex where it was showing has been nominated for a Bafta award.

    The disturbance happened at Birmingham's Star City in November.

    It saw gang-themed drama Blue Story pulled from Vue cinemas although it was later reinstated.

    Actor Michael Ward said his nomination for the EE Rising Star Award was a vindication of the film.

    West Midlands Police did not ask for, or recommend, the film be pulled last November, and a social media backlash suggested the film's removal was racist.

    Vue reported that in the first 24 hours of the film's release, there were "25 significant incidents" at "16 separate cinemas", with, it said, police called to some.

    Ward said: "The headlines or whatever is one thing, but that doesn't sum up the film."

    Bafta chief executive Amanda Berry called the film "absolutely amazing".

    Debenhams stores at The Mander Centre in Wolverhampton and The Fort shopping park in Erdington, Birmingham, are among those set to close on 11 January, the company has announced.

    In total, 19 stores are due to shut between 11 January and 25, the company says following its rescue from administration by creditors in May.

    The closures will result in 660 job losses.

    Debenhams chief executive, Stefaan Vansteenkiste, said:We are working hard to implement the transformation of Debenhams.

    "Despite a challenging retail environment, thanks to our colleagues’ hard work and our investor group’s commitment, we are progressing with our turnaround.”

    The leader of Shropshire Council admits more can be done to fix the county's potholes problem.

    It comes after resident Ian Field told BBC Midlands Today the cost of car damage was tantamount to a tax on people living in rural areas.

    He said he had to replace four tyres in December alone.

    Thousands of Birmingham residents have been charged the wrong fee for the council's garden waste service.

    The authority blamed "technical issues" but assured the public the problem was resolved.

    Bins chief, Councillor John O’Shea, tweeted that the council system hadn't offered a discounted collection service fee and apologised for the mix-up, vowing refunds would be made a "top priority".

    The garden waste service, which provides fortnightly collections between early March and December 4, is supposed to cost £45 at the "early bird price" and £50 when ordered from 1 February.

    The council confirmed 3,803 customers were affected.

    Two men have been arrested on suspicion of murder following the discovery of a body at a flat.

    The emergency services were called to Lord Street, Crewe, Cheshire, on Friday night.

    Cheshire Police said , externalthe unnamed man was pronounced dead at the property.

    A 22-year-old man has been released on bail while the second suspect, aged 39, has been released under investigation.

    The music retailer HMV has warned of job losses and store closures- unless landlords agree to renegotiate the leases.

    Three stores, including one at Nuneaton, will close at the end of January.

    There are ten stores including branches at the Birmingham Bullring, Merry Hill shopping centre and Worcester, where negotiations with landlords are ongoing, it said.

    The HMV Vault, which opened in Birmingham in October last year, and its store at the St John's shopping centre in Leeds would not be affected, the company added.

    A bus interchange in Coventry has been closed as work continues to revamp the railway station.

    Two car parks will shut from next Sunday with motorists being asked to use land where the bus stops have been moved from.

    The £80m work will be completed in time for Coventry being the UK City of Culture 2021.
