    Local Democracy Reporting Service

Plans for a Bangladeshi monument in Birmingham, which was originally going to be as tall as a house, have been scaled back.

The steel structure is intended for Small Heath Park and has been designed to mark International Mother Language Day on 21 February, which celebrates cultural and linguistic diversity.

It was going to be 23ft (7m) in height but was reduced to 16ft (5m) following negotiations.

The five-piece monument is based on one in the Bangladeshi capital and represents a mother surrounded by her family.

The local Bangladeshi community have held events at Small Heath Park for a number of years, using a temporary structure.
