Shrewsbury's town centre swimming pool is likely to get a refit, under proposals going before Shropshire councillors next week - and there could be a second pool built as well.

Four options for the Quarry Pool are on the table, with two of them being to do nothing, or to build a brand new facility - but those two options aren't being recommended in the report.

    Quarry Pool

The two options being recommended are to refit the leisure centre with a competition pool and a leisure pool or to refit the centre with a leisure pool, and to build a competition pool at the town's Sundorne Sports Village.

If the cabinet approves the two recommendations, site investigations and financial estimates will be carried out for the remaining two options, and a decision would be made at a later date.

  15. Nicola Payne disappearance: 'People know the truth'published at 17:51 Greenwich Mean Time 4 February 2020

The cousin of a young mother who disappeared 28 years ago has appealed for anyone with information to contact police.

Nicola Payne went missing aged 18 while walking across wasteland near her parents' house in Coventry in December 1991.

    Amanda Eales

Speaking near a canal where police are searching for Nicola's remains, Amanda Eales said she "absolutely" believed "people know the truth" about what happened to her cousin.

Ms Eales, of Coventry, said: "I just hope that as they age - the same as we all are aging and my auntie and uncle are aging - that their loyalties may change and maybe through illness or something they may sit there and think 'I cannot take this anymore' and tell us what we need to know.”

Officers are working with a specialist underwater search team near Rugby after receiving "new information".

It is the latest in a number of searches and appeals following Ms Payne's disappearance.

  16. Woakes takes wicket in 100th one-day matchpublished at 17:29 Greenwich Mean Time 4 February 2020

    BBC Sport

Warwickshire's Chris Woakes has taken a wicket for England in his 100th one-day international, but he's going to need a few more to prevent an easy South Africa victory.

The tourists scored 258-8 off their 50 overs and Woakes scored 40 of those runs, but South Africa appear to be cruising to that target and need 65 runs to win from 16.0 overs, with nine wickets still remaining.

  17. Shrewsbury to make 'a lot less money' from FA Cup tiepublished at 16:58 Greenwich Mean Time 4 February 2020

Shrewsbury Town will make "a lot less money" than they could have done from tonight's FA Cup replay against Liverpool, but chief executive Brian Caldwell believes it's still a fantastic opportunity.

The game at Anfield is a sell-out, but ticket prices were lowered because Liverpool are fielding an under-23 side, while their senior players take a winter break.

    Brian Caldwell

Mr Caldwell said: "If someone had said to us before the first game, last Sunday, you'll get a replay but you'll take a lot less money than you'd expect, we'd all have bitten their hand off."

And he's hoping their FA Cup run will bring more fans to their games and added: "If we could just get some of these people along on a regular basis to watch our league games, we'd be in a far stronger position."
