Shropshire Council previously said the development was being considered with the needs of neighbouring authorities in mind.

The water main burst that flooded streets in Tipton on Tuesday morning appears to have been in a different spot to the one last October, South Staffs Water has said.

Mr Bird and Mr Perry made the comments as councillors discussed a programme designed to make the council more efficient and cut the budget by £78m over the next 10 years.

  16. Developer dismisses site contamination 'scaremongering'published at 13:10 Greenwich Mean Time 5 February 2020

    Local Democracy Reporting Service

A developer has dismissed claims medical waste was dumped at a former brick works in Birmingham and accused opponents of "scaremongering" to stop homes being built there.

Birmingham City Council has given Persimmon Homes permission to build 187 homes on the site off Holly Lane, in Erdington, and council planning officers said it was probably the "most tested site in Birmingham".

    Erdington siteImage source, Google

Part of the 15-acre site was once a former quarry and it is estimated the base extends 98ft (30m) down from the surface.

Persimmon is due to take 12 months making the land safe, starting this autumn, and will then create a 13ft (4m) deep ‘platform’ to build houses on by removing soil to process and re-compact it.

Construction work on the new homes is unlikely to begin before the summer of 2021.

    Quote Message

We are aware that the former clay pit was used for the tipping of household waste until its cessation in the 1970s. Since then the site has been subject to a number of investigations including both stability and gas monitoring. No evidence of any medical waste has been found on the site and there is no record of the site having ever been used for the tipping of medical waste
