    Two enforcement officers could be hired in Worcester to hand out fines to people who feed gulls or beg aggressively in the city centre.

    Worcester City Council is setting aside £60,000 to pay the pair, who will enforce the proposed "public space protection order" which would also ban cycling through some parts of the centre.

    The council is also planning to spend a £5,000 to hire a cherry picker to find hidden gull nests.

    Two boys have been arrested after a man was stabbed in the Brookside area of Telford last night.

    A 26-year-old man was taken to hospital with a stab wound after being attacked on Bembridge and his condition is currently described as stable.

    The pair, who are aged 13 and 15, were arrested on suspicion of assault and have been released on bail.

    A man has been arrested on suspicion of terrorism offences.

    The 19-year-old was arrested from an address in Solihull on suspicion of assisting another to commit terrorism, police say.

    There was no risk to the public in the "intelligence-led" operation, said West Midlands Police, external.

    As part of the same investigation, a 32-year-old man has been charged with preparing for an act of terrorism and funding terrorism, who is awaiting trial.

    On Thursday a 49-year-old was charged with funding terrorism.

  5. 'Sweetest' teenager 'lived and breathed football'published at 11:34 Greenwich Mean Time 7 February 2020

    A teenager found stabbed in Coventry has been described as "the sweetest lad," who "lived and breathed football".

    The body of Babacar Diagne was found in grassland in the Wood End area of the city on Wednesday.

    A woman who attended a vigil in the city last night said she'd been left "heartbroken".

    "He was not in any form of gang - he didn't agree with it.

    "I remember the conversation we had over my dining room table - he turned around and he says 'what is it lads with all this postcode stuff?'

    "He said 'there's no need, let's get a ball - play football'

    "He lived and breathed football - if he wasn't playing it he was talking about it - that and his music."

    "It's scary, these boys shouldn't be living like this," she added, "none of our children are safe, no matter what area you come from."

    A 15-year-old was arrested in the Canley area of the city on suspicion of murder and five others are in custody on suspicion of assisting an offender, said West Midlands Police.

    The New Saints go into the second phase of the season with a four-point lead at the top of the Welsh Premier League.

    The top six sides have split away to play each other for the championship over the next 10 games and TNS start with a match against Newtown at Oswestry's Park Hall stadium tonight.

    The New Saints have a nine-point cushion over Bala Town, who are third, but the manager Scott Ruscoe warned his players not to underestimate the rest of the pack.

    A British passenger on a cruise ship quarantined off a Japanese port has tested positive for coronavirus.

    Alan Steele from Wolverhampton, who is believed to be on his honeymoon, posted on Facebook that he had been diagnosed with the virus.

    He posted that he was not showing any symptoms but was being shipped to hospital.

    "Would also like to say that at the moment I am not showing any symptoms so just possible a carrier.

    "Will let you know how I am going on when possible."

    Another 41 people on board the Diamond Princess have tested positive for the new coronavirus, bringing the total number of cases on board to 61.

    A report, published today by Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary, external, has criticised the decision to end the alliance between the West Mercia and Warwickshire forces.

    They're still in the process of agreeing a separation, after West Mercia Police complained in October 2018 that the arrangement was unfair and one-sided.

    In this report, Wendy Williams, Her Majesty’s Inspector of Constabulary, said West Mercia's "decision to terminate the alliance does not appear to have been based on a well-evidenced business case, nor were the public or partners consulted beforehand".

    She also said: "There is no certainty as to how it will provide these services in the future, and the costs and benefits of terminating the alliance are not yet fully known."

    The split was due to take place last year, but Home Secretary Priti Patel ordered an extension until April, after the two sides couldn't agree the terms.

    A man has been charged with murder following the death of his wife at a property in Stourbridge.

    Gian Bhandal, 82, was discovered at a house in Trehernes Drive, Stourbridge, West Midlands, on 23 January.

    Pargan Singh Bhandal is due to appear at Leamington Justice Centre later.

    The M6 in Staffordshire has just be reopened after an earlier broken-down works vehicle.

    Drivers are being warned, however, that there's still 10 miles of queuing traffic in the area.

    A 15-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a teenager was found stabbed in Coventry.

    Police have named the victim as 15-year-old Babacar Diagne.

    The suspect was detained from an address in the Canley area of the city along with five other people who have been detained on suspicion of assisting an offender, said West Midlands Police.

    A child has been critically injured after a crash involving two cars in Oldbury on Thursday evening.

    She was taken to hospital after the crash at the junction of Parsons Hill and Wolverhampton Road at 19:40.

    A woman and two other children in the same car were treated for injuries not believed to be serious, and also taken to hospital.

    Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has announced more cuts in production at two of its sites in the West Midlands.

    Production lines will close on certain days in Castle Bromwich and Solihull for either a full or half day between now and the end of March.

    The firm said the move allowed it to "reflect fluctuating demand globally, whilst still meeting customer needs".

    JLR said the "external environment remains challenging" and the company is taking "decisive actions to achieve the necessary operational efficiencies to safeguard long-term success".
