  2. Lockdown to cost cathedral 'about £250,000'published at 10:59 British Summer Time 22 June 2020

    Worcester Cathedral is set to lose £250,000 in revenue this year due to the Covid-19 lockdown, according to its Dean.

    The site is reopening its doors to worshippers today, external after being closed since March when the lockdown began.

    The Dean, The Very Reverend Peter Atkinson, said it immediately lost 50% of its revenue when it shut from tourists, collections at services and the shop and cafe being closed.

    "We shall be needing to look for more money and we shall have to be cutting our costs. Life after Covid is going to be a bit different but the cathedral will be there and it will still be open as a place of prayer and worship," he added.

  4. Boy arrested on suspicion of drugs supply offencespublished at 10:14 British Summer Time 22 June 2020

    A teenager has been arrested on suspicion of drugs offences following an incident on Friday.

    Officers witnessed a suspected drug deal in an alleyway behind Victoria Street, Rugby at about 23:40.

    Drugs, cash and a mobile phone were seized.

    A knife was also found after a search of a nearby address, said Warwickshire Police.

    A 16-year-old boy from Nottingham was arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of drugs.

    He has been released on bail while inquiries are ongoing, the force added.

    A biker has been critically injured in a hit-and-run crash in Coventry.

    His motorbike was in collision with a black VW Golf on Bedworth Road, between Oban Road and Ibstock Road, at about 19:45 on Saturday.

    The biker, aged 53, was left seriously injured on the ground while the Golf driver and two passengers fled the scene, said West Midlands Police.

    Officers are asking for witnesses to come forward.

    A man has died after being rescued from a flat fire in Coventry.

    Emergency services were called to the property on Tile Hill Lane shortly before 20:10 on Sunday, said the ambulance service.

    “On arrival crews discovered one patient, a man, who had been rescued from the building by the fire service," it added.

    He was confirmed dead at the scene.

    Thirteen people have been arrested in a police crackdown on lockdown raves over the weekend.

    Staffordshire Police detained 11 men and two women in connection with illegal raves planned for Cannock.

    The force also seized a generator, speakers and an amplifier.

    It comes after police warned against raves across the county border in the Black Country on Saturday.

    A man is due in court later charged with causing or allowing the death of a child after his six-year-old son died from head injuries.

    Arthur Labinjo-Hughes was found unresponsive at a house on Cranmore Road, Shirley, in Solihull, on Tuesday and later died in hospital.

    Thomas Hughes, 27, and his partner Emma Tustin, 31, who both lived at the address, face the same charge.

    They are due to appear before Birmingham Magistrates' Court.
