    Moseley's open gardens event will be held online this year, because of coronavirus.

    A Youtube channel has been set up by Moseley in Bloom, to give people virtual tours from 27 June and it will also feature performances from local musicians.

    The man coordinating the project, Jonathan Smith, said when the group started the project two weeks ago they didn't know if they'd have enough films, but now they have so many they don't know if they can get them all edited in time.

  3. County's libraries to begin phased reopeningpublished at 14:37 British Summer Time 24 June 2020

    Staffordshire's 43 libraries will begin reopening from 6 July.

    The first to reopen will be those in Burton-upon-Trent, Newcastle-under-Lyme and Stafford, with the others following in the weeks after.

    But, Gill Heath (pictured below), the county councillor responsible for libraries, described it as "not a return to normality, but a welcome step towards it".

    Ms Heath explained staff will be running an "order and collect" service to begin with, so there will be no browsing and limited numbers allowed inside.

    Meeting rooms will also remain closed and there will be no access to toilets, PCs, printers, photocopiers, or bus pass renewals.

    A cafe owner fears he could have to get rid of some staff if he is forced to reduce the number of tables inside in order to meet the latest social distancing guidelines to reopen safely.

    From 4 July, pubs, bars, cafes and restaurants in England will be able to welcome customers inside for the first time since lockdown began in March.

    Prime Minister Boris Johnson also said the two-metre social distancing rule would be relaxed to "one metre plus", with some conditions.

    Francini Osorio had already installed shower curtains around booths in his cafe in Worcester to protect customers, external.

    But he is now worried he'll have to take tables out in order to keep people at least one metre apart.

    "I'm going to have to get rid of some of my staff because I won't be able to generate enough money to support my business," he said.

    "I'm going to lose about 38 to 40 people a day. By the end of the month, it's going to be thousands of pounds. I won't have to be able to keep the business afloat."

    "It is very difficult to change culture and very difficult to change feelings."

    Nuno, who is the only black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) manager in the top flight, added: "A lot of people are changing, which is a good sign."

    A Wolverhampton City Councillor has been arrested on suspicion of fraud.

    Councillor Harman Banger , externalwas cabinet member for city economy on the Labour-run authority until last week when he was said to have stood down by the council "for personal reasons".

    West Midlands Police said a 38-year-old man arrested on suspicion of fraud offences had been released pending further investigation.

    Mr Banger has been approached by the BBC for a response.

    Builders in Herefordshire & Worcestershire say a shortage of plaster is holding up the repair of flood-hit properties and other projects.

    The UK's major supplier of plaster halted production at the start of the coronavirus crisis and has only returned to normal levels of supply this month.

    Dan Campbell, from Finnate Construction Ltd, who has been working on a property in Tenbury Wells, said they have been told it is going to be three to four weeks before they will be able to get any plastering products.

    He said the delays will "definitely" impact on repairs.

    The wife of Shropshire MP Owen Paterson's been found dead at their family home, the MP has said.

    In a statement, the Conservative former cabinet minister said the death of Rose has come as a "terrible shock" to the family.

    Mrs Paterson was chair of the Aintree Racecourse and the couple married in 1980.

    A man who spent almost three months in hospital with Covid-19 and defied medical predictions of his survival has said he is looking forward to seeing his grandchildren after being discharged.

    Keith Holland, 67, became ill in March, was admitted to Walsall Manor on 30 March and at one stage placed on a ventilator when he struggled to breathe.

    The NHS trust running the hospital said, external his wife was called at one point to be told he wasn't expected to live.

    But, having spent his birthday at the site earlier this month, Mr Holland finally went home on Saturday.

    Around 1,500 laptops are being given out to selected school pupils around Stoke-on-Trent to help them continue their home schooling.

    The laptops have come from the Department for Education and are for children who have spent time in care, children with a social worker and year 10 pupils who don't have access to the technology.

    Three people including a child had to be rescued from a house fire which might have been started deliberately, the fire service said.

    Fifteen firefighters were called just after 04:15 to Highfield Road, Birmingham, to a fire in the ground floor of the two-storey home.

    The child and two adults were rescued with a ladder from the first floor and treated after breathing in smoke, the ambulance service said.

    Investigations are continuing into what caused it, but the fire service said it looked like it might have been arson.

    A pet, thought to be a guinea pig, had to be given oxygen after being rescued from a house fire in Coventry.

    West Midlands Fire Service said, external this "little fella" was saved from the blaze last night. A person inside at the time had already escaped and called 999.

    The Bullring shopping centre in Birmingham was briefly evacuated this morning after a man was spotted with a machete and a bag left in the area was thought to be suspicious.

    West Midlands Police said, external the centre was cleared at about 09:00 but reopened about 30 minutes later as the bag turned out to contain toiletries.

    They added a 28-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon.

    Paramedics also treated a man and woman for minor injuries at the scene on Coronation Road, the ambulance service said.

    Police said residents were evacuated in the early hours of this morning but the items involved were made safe.

    They haven't revealed what the items were.
