    The New Vic Theatre in Newcastle-under-Lyme is going to have a refurbishment for the first time since it was built, 34-years ago.

    Work will start this week to transform its auditorium.

    The theatre will install a brand new stage, replace its 597 seats, add two-person seats and redesign its balcony.

    Customer toilets will also be upgraded.

    Police investigating the death of 40-year-old Jesse Richards from Evesham in 2009 are continuing to search a property in Warwickshire.

    Officers from West Mercia Police have cordoned off a property on Smorral Lane, Corley.

    Five men were jailed over Mr Richards' death in 2012, but his remains were never found.

    The Ironbridge Gorge Museums are planning to reopen, external a number of their attractions on 4 July and have put tickets on sale today.

    Blists Hill Victorian Town, the Museum of Iron, Museum of the Gorge and the Ironbridge Tollhouse were chosen because they were either big enough to allow social distancing or could have a one-way system.

    Thieves posing as police officers have stolen jewellery and other valuables from a house in Gobowen.

    West Mercia Police said they struck at 21:15 on Sunday and searched the house, before driving away in a dark-coloured BMW.

    A Worcestershire boy is preparing to return home after undergoing successful treatment for a rare aggressive form of leukaemia, after hundreds of thousands of pounds were raised for him to undergo the treatment.

    Six-year-old Oscar Saxelby-Lee has now been cancer free for six months - after travelling to Singapore last year for Car-T therapy to treat his acute lymphoblastic leukaemia.

    The treatment is specifically developed for individual patients and involves reprogramming their immune system cells, which are used to target the cancer.

    And it looks like Oscar can't wait to get back!

    His family have shared a video of him cheering at the news that their flights have been booked.

    Two men are being questioned after an elderly man was robbed at knifepoint in Stoke-on-Trent.

  15. Fire crews for three counties could get one control centrepublished at 11:29 British Summer Time 23 June 2020

    The Local Democracy Reporting Service in Shropshire's been covering these stories in the past few days:

    • One single fire control centre could be created to serve three counties after the fire and rescue services agreed to an alliance. The move was signed off by the governing bodies of Shropshire and Hereford and Worcester fire services in October and this week Shropshire and Wrekin Fire Authority will hear four options have been worked out for how they run their control centres.

    • A report into the mental health assessment of a man the day before he murdered his partner is still waiting to be signed off by the government, more than two years after the killing. Lynn McNally, 46, was stabbed to death in Telford in February 2018 and a draft report into the murder is with the Home Office, according to an update for the Midlands Partnership NHS Foundation Trust's board.
    • The number of holes at a golf club could be halved to nine under plans to allow a 120-pitch static caravan park to be built on half the site. The proposals would see the complex built at Henlle Park Golf Club, Gobowen, and will be decided at a future date by Shropshire Council.

  17. Former chancellor Sajid Javid warns against return to austeritypublished at 10:46 British Summer Time 23 June 2020

    Former chancellor Sajid Javid has warned against a return to austerity as the UK economy struggles with the effects of the coronavirus crisis.

    In a report by the Centre for Policy Studies, external, the Bromsgrove MP has also called for low taxes on business to aid the country's recovery.

    Mr Javid said "some long-term damage to the economy" has become "unavoidable" and made 63 recommendations.

    He also said National Insurance should be cut to make it easier and cheaper for employers to take on new staff and that infrastructure-building should be brought forward to boost the economy.

  18. Pavement fire caused by electric fuse boxpublished at 10:19 British Summer Time 23 June 2020

    An electric fuse box has caught fire in Birmingham, causing flames to appear out of the pavement.

    Three firefighters are at the site at the corner of Northfield Road and Selly Oak Road in Kings Norton, after being called shortly after 08:30.

    Western Power Distribution is also at the site isolating power to local substations, the fire service said.
