    A couple who are in Perranporth to prepare their static caravan for visitors said they have been made to feel welcome.

    Linda and Bob Caple, from Tamworth, said their caravan, at the Haven Perran Sands Holiday Park, was fully booked between next week and September.

    Linda said people seemed to want to stay local on their holidays, and she had also been taking bookings for 2021.

    “I have never had so many bookings for next year as I have at the moment,” she said.

    Linda said the site had been open for a couple of days to owners, but Monday was the first day tourists were allowed to come.

    She said: “We are finding it quite busy, but I think tomorrow is going to be a lot busier [in town]. Most holidaymakers turn up today.”

    Bob said everything on the site was very organised.

    A Coventry hotel is to receive a £1m rescue package from the city council to offset coronavirus lockdown pressures.

    Council Leader George Duggins said the loan to Coombe Abbey Hotel would “ensure the future” of the council-owned hotel while the hospitality sector struggles with losses from the pandemic.

    The move was approved by council chief executive Martin Reeves through emergency powers meaning the decision was not publicly debated by councillors.

    It has sparked criticism that the decision was pushed through without scrutiny and has been branded a "taxpayer bailout" by the Conservative opposition group.

    The council purchased the hotel for a reported £11m in 2017 and handed it previous help such as a £1.95m loan last year to facilitate a GoApe assault course.

    A prominent Shropshire non-league football club has gone out of business due after losing income due to the effects of the coronavirus pandemic on its season.

    FC Oswestry Town played in Division One of the Northwest Counties League and shared TNS's Park Hall ground.

    They were heading for promotion to the North West Counties League premier division when the season was stopped and then declared null and void.

    The manager's resigned, and the team said it was not financially viable, external to continue given the lost income.

    Pret A Manger is to close 30 outlets and is expected to cut at least 1,000 jobs at other shops as part of a post-pandemic restructuring.

    It is not clear yet which of its 410 stores are shutting down, but it has so far reopened 339 of them following the easing of lockdown restrictions.

    The company said the impact of coronavirus on trading meant it had to make a "difficult decision".

    Pret said it needed to reduce headcount across its UK shops to "reflect lower footfall, rental costs and new safety measures".

    A man has been arrested after two paramedics were stabbed in Wolverhampton.

    The ambulance service staff were attending a call to check on the welfare of a man at an address in Stephens Close at 12:15.

    They were treated at the scene by doctors and paramedics and have been taken to hospital for further treatment.

    A man who was tasered by police officers at the scene has also been treated by ambulance staff.

    The coronavirus crisis could "level down" the UK economy with London and the South East expected to bounce back more quickly than parts of the West Midlands.

    Industries such as finance and construction will be worst hit by the pandemic, a report from the Social Market Foundation (SMF) found.

    Initially, London and the South East will be worst affected it said.

    However, other areas face a more painful recovery from the impact of the virus, including Sandwell and Walsall, the centrist think tank said.

    A couple in Telford have become among the first in England to get married after wedding restrictions were eased over the weekend.

    Tracie and Neal Arden were thought to be the first to tie the knot in the Telford and Wrekin area under the new rules, thanks to a ceremony at the Best Weston Hotel in Ironbridge, which opened especially for the big day.

    Most weddings are capped to 30 guests, but it depends on the size of the venue, so just nine people were allowed inside for the ceremony, including staff.

    For Tracie, the first time her parents knew she was a newly wed was when she showed them her wedding ring through the window.

    Restrictions mean there was also no singing, no playing of musical instruments.

    Despite the limitations, the couple said Saturday's date held a special significance as the five-year anniversary of them getting together.

    With Neal shielding and Tracie working for the NHS she said they were also both "very aware" of what was needed to keep everyone safe.

    The Royal Shakespeare Company has welcomed a £1.57bn government support package to help protect the futures of UK theatres, galleries, museums and other cultural venues.

    Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden said new grants and loans aimed to preserve "crown jewels" in the UK's art sector as well as local venues.

    It follows several weeks of pressure, with industry leaders warning that many venues were on the brink of collapse.

    About 8,000 people visited Birmingham's Broad Street over a 12-hour period on Saturday said the city's Buisness Improvement District (BID) group.

    Mike Olly from the Westside BID said businesses had been liaising with police officers "on a daily basis" in the lead up to opening.

    "West Midlands Police took this very seriously, we didn't just pull the dust covers off and get on with it, there was a lot of preparatory stuff going on."

    Some long queues are building on the two biggest motorways in the region.

    A crash on the M6 southbound between J15 and J14 outside Stafford is causing six and a half miles of tailbacks. Highways England is warning that it could add 30 minutes or more to your journey time.

    One of the two lanes is currently closed and recovery teams are on the scene.

    It's an almost identical situation on the M5 southbound approaching J8, near Strensham.
