    • Cars could be stopped from driving past schools at drop-off and pick up times in parts of Shropshire from September under plans to get more families walking and cycling to school. Shropshire Council is going to consider the move after councillors backed a motion asking for the scheme to be adopted.

    • A council's pledged to cut its reliance on B&Bs for homeless people and instead spend £1.5m on on houses to be used as temporary accommodation. The scheme will see Shropshire Council take out long-term leases with private landlords and could be expanded in the future if it proves successful.
    • Shropshire's flagship pension fund will be asked by Shropshire Council to move away from investing in fossil fuels within three years. Councillors backed a motion from the local authority's only Green Party councillor, Julian Dean, with only one councillor abstaining and none voting against the idea.

    Cases of coronavirus infections in the West Midlands are continuing to decline and the region's infection rate remains low, according to health officials.

    However, spikes in Herefordshire, almost entirely connected with an outbreak on a farm, and in East Staffordshire saw those areas picked out as areas of interest.

    The latest figures show there were two deaths reported in local hospitals today and the University Hospitals Birmingham said it now had 73 coronavirus patients compared with 180 four weeks ago.

    At the latest West Midlands weekly briefing, the Covid-19 regional covenor, Clive Wright, said the local reproduction or R number was 0.7-0.9, lower than the national figure.

    He added there was currently a low level of infections across the region and Stoke-on-Trent had the highest rate regionally, but is still about 10% of the rate in Leicester, which remains under a strict lockdown.

    Two areas in the West Midlands have seen a rise in new cases in the past week compared to the previous seven days.

    Herefordshire's cases per 100,000 rose from 3.1 in the week to 6 July to 43.2 for the following week during which 93 workers tested positive at a farm in the county.

    There was also a big rise in the East Staffordshire area, from 7.6 cases per 100,000 to 28.7. By comparison, Leicester's cases fell from 127.0 per 100,000 to 101.1

    The number of passengers using rail services in the West Midlands since lockdown was eased is a fifth of what it was before Covid-19, a transport boss has said.

    Face masks became compulsory on public transport more than a month ago and Laura Shoaf, Managing Director of Transport for West Midlands, told a weekly briefing staff had seen more than 90% of people complying with the rule.

    At the briefing, West Midlands mayor Andy Street said it was positive for the prime minister to encourage more workers to use public transport but it was up to each business to decide whether staff can safely return.

    More libraries are going to reopen in Staffordshire in the next fortnight as the coronavirus lockdown continues to ease.

    Three reopened last week in Burton upon Trent (pictured), Newcastle-under-Lyme and Stafford and the county council says it's now ready to get more back into use. , external

    The next five, including Cannock, Lichfield and Tamworth, will reopen on Monday with another eight the following Monday, including Biddulph, Burntwood, Codsall and Uttoxeter.

    The local authority said there would be an "order and collect" service to start with and no browsing with only a small number of visitors allowed inside the buildings.

    His Norton seat will now remain vacant until local elections in May next year.

    The Labour councillor was originally voted on to the council in 2004 when he stood as a Conservative.

    A 16-year-old boy was charged with supplying heroine and crack cocaine as well as possession of criminal property and threatening a person with a blade.

    A 59-year-old man from Nuneaton was arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of class A drugs and an 18-year old man from West Bromwich was arrested on suspicion of possession of class A drugs with intent to supply and being concerned in the supply of drugs.
