    A heritage railway has said it will be October before it reopens to visitors after the coronavirus lockdown.

    Foxfield Light Railway runs steam and diesel trains through the Staffordshire Moorlands near Blythe Bridge.

    But, despite other heritage lines like Severn Valley Railway having already reopened, Foxfield said it needed to spend August and September getting ready.

    A footpath near Ross-on-Wye has been reopened after protests by walkers.

    More than 100 people took part in a demonstration after a bridge was removed, barriers put up and gates blocked.

    The bridge was replaced and the barriers removed after Herefordshire Council took enforcement action.

    Latest figures show 15.26 cases per 100,000 residents over the seven days to 1 August, up from 14.49 cases a week before.

    The council has put the rise down to an increase among households while it also said many of the new cases were asymptomatic with individuals not showing symptoms at the time of the test.

    Ankush Mittal, a consultant in public health with the city council, said the team were shifting to more proactive testing to get a better idea of the situation.

    "We'll be trialling lots of new methods, proactive testing in particularly high-risk businesses, large employers and potentially more opportunistic testing in certain communities where we know testing rates may be lower than others."

  4. Man hurt as cars crash and hit wallpublished at 10:44 British Summer Time 5 August 2020

    A man's suffered potentially serious injuries after a crash involving two cars which saw one of them hit a building.

    The collision happened last night near the junction of Edwards Road and High Street, Erdington, Birmingham, the ambulance service said., external

    The man was found in one of the cars and taken to hospital.

    The emergency services checked the building to make sure no-one was trapped inside and confirmed nobody else was hurt.

  6. Another eight people test positive in farm outbreakpublished at 09:53 British Summer Time 5 August 2020

    Another eight people linked to a farm in Herefordshire have tested positive for coronavirus, bringing the total to 142.

    Herefordshire Council said a number of workers on the AS Green site at Mathon who previously tested positive have now completed their period of self-isolation and have been allowed to return to work or leave the farm

    The council also said the people who recently tested positive were being asked to remain on the site and self-isolate and were being provided with food and other essential supplies.

    It said the risk to people living in the wider area remained low.

    A number of staff at the biggest Tesco store in Coventry have tested positive for coronavirus.

    The supermarket said it was a small number at the shop at the Arena Park Shopping Centre but didn't reveal the exact figure.

    Public Health England is advising and "all the relevant precautions" are being taken, the firm added.

    Hockey in England has an issue with "endemic racism" and not enough is being done by the governing body to tackle it, according to several clubs.

    Eight clubs, including ones in the West Midlands, have signed a letter accusing England Hockey of presiding over a system that is "biased" against ethnic minority players.

    "It is out of touch with modern-day Britain," wrote Barford Tigers Hockey Club chairman Gurmej Singh Pawar.

    England Hockey said it wants the sport to be "a force for good in diversity".

    The clubs include Barford Tigers, Birmingham and Sikh Union Coventry.

    The family of a man fatally stabbed in a nightclub has started civil proceedings against the person cleared of murdering him.

    Ryan Passey died three years ago this week after an altercation in Chicago's in Stourbridge.

    Kobe Murray stood trial on charges of murder and manslaughter, which he denied, and was cleared of both.

    He told the court in 2018 he had taken the knife off someone else and the stabbing was an accident, with the jury accepting he did not intend harm.

    Mr Passey's family has now lodged a civil claim hoping to establish that he was unlawfully killed by Mr Murray.

    Campaigner Jason Connon said the family felt let down by the criminal justice system and wanted to keep fighting.

  17. Shopping centre to get £5m for redevelopmentpublished at 18:21 British Summer Time 4 August 2020

    Six projects in Shropshire and Herefordshire have been awarded grants totaling £14m by the government.

    They've benefited from the same Getting Building Fund as eight projects in Birmingham and Coventry and include £5m for Shropshire Council to spend on redeveloping the Pride Hill shopping centre.

    • £1m for a project to create new wetlands along the River Lugg
    • £3m to improve Hereford city centre
    • £1m to develop campus facilities for NMITE at Skylon Park
    • £2.38m for a project to create new healthcare and residential units in Wellington
    • £1m for a Wrekin Housing Group project retrofitting homes with zero carbon technology to tackle fuel poverty
