    The former Stoke City striker Ricardo Fuller has signed for Hanley Town at the age of 40, because he loves the area and doesn't want to give up playing.

    He has lived in the Crewe area for the last 15 years and called Stoke-on-Trent his "home away from home" and wants to give something back.

    Fuller won 72 caps for his home nation of Jamaica and could make his debut for Hanley tonight.

    There will be more lane closures around Solihull this month as roadworks continue around Northway Island to prepare it for the arrival of HS2.

    The work will be carried out during the day, rather than overnight, as originally suggested, and that could include some work at the weekend.

    Last week a decision was made to grant planning permission to the nearby HS2 Interchange Station.

    Birmingham and Sandwell have both returned to the list of 20 towns and cities with the highest rates of coronavirus cases in England.

    In the week to 28 August, Birmingham's figures rose from 24.3 cases per 100,000 to 27.5. Sandwell's rose from 21.9 per 100,000 to 26.5. More people are being tested for the virus, health officials say.

    The figures put both of them above the national average of 12.3, but well below Pendle in Lancashire, which tops the table with 76.

    The Port Vale manager John Askey, said he feels for players like Manny Oyeleke who keep picking up injuries.

    The midfielder should return to full training by the end of this week after an injury picked up during pre season, and Askey said a series of injuries like this "can get you down".

    A man has been slashed across his back while trying to protect his baby daughter from a masked robber in Bournville.

    West Midlands Police said the attacker had threatened to harm the 22-month-old on Hawthorne Road yesterday and her father stood over the pram to keep her safe.

    The masked man fled empty handed and the knife was later discovered in the area.

    The police said the injuries to the victim, who is in his 30s, are not serious.

  15. Another pantomime is called offpublished at 17:00 British Summer Time 1 September 2020

    Aladdin has just gone the same way as Beauty and the Beast and many other pantomimes, with Telford's theatre announcing it won't be hosting a pantomime this year.

    The Place in Oakengates has been closed since March and bosses said they waited as long as possible before making the decision. The continuing uncertainty over coronavirus restrictions had made it necessary, they added today.

    Councillor Eileen Callear, from Telford and Wrekin Council said the current guidelines would impact on a lot of the things that made pantomime popular, including, "packed houses, lots of singing and shouting and the audience joining in".

    The theatre said it is "exploring alternative plans for the Christmas season".

    Herefordshire's public swimming pools will reopen next week for the first time since March.

    People will be able to book slots for lane swimming in the Halo-run pools at Ross-on-Wye, Ledbury and Leominster and lessons will resume in a few weeks' time.

    Hereford swimming pool will remain closed until next year as it's being repaired after being badly damaged by flooding in February.

    Flights from Jersey to Birmingham and Exeter have resumed after being suspended during the coronavirus pandemic, airline Blue Islands has announced.

    Birmingham services will operate four days a week and Exeter three days a week, with the expectation they will become daily in the summer of 2021.

    CEO Rob Veron said they were "pleased to reinstate" the two routes, which provide "key regional connectivity" to and from the island.

    The services will connect with inter-island services from Guernsey once regular flights between the islands resume, the airline confirmed.
