Speaking in the Commons, Lucy Allan, the Conservative MP for Telford, said the government has important questions to answer.
Addressing business minster Paul Scully she said: "Will he ask whether his predecessor, the Post Office minister in 2018/19, was aware of this, and if not, why not?"
The minister replied: "The litigation was taken on entirely by Post Office Limited, but (Ms Allan) does not need me to answer these questions - that is exactly the kind of question that Sir Wyn Williams will be asking throughout his independent inquiry which will report back in summer this year."

A variant of the coronavirus currently emerging in India could be a "significantly" greater threat to young adults and children than any previous variant, Birmingham’s public health chief has warned.
Dr Justin Varney said "scenario-testing" plans were being undertaken in the city in case it saw a variant that did affect children more, describing the Indian variant as a "clear and present danger" to the UK’s Covid roadmap.
The situation in India has been progressing rapidly, with 320,000 new infections on Tuesday alone and deaths rising close to 200,000 overall.
The variant is currently listed as one of interest in the UK, although it is expected to be upgraded to a variant of concern later this week.
He added that he had not been alerted to any cases in the city "that have not got off a plane - ie are not in their quarantine arrangements."
Quote MessageThere are certainly disturbing images and information coming from India at the moment that suggest the variant is a significantly greater threat to younger adults than any previous variants, so we are taking it very seriously."
