With the fire still burning and waste "very compact", two appliances were at Greenway Polymers, Ketley, on Monday, after more than 70 firefighters were involved at the height of the blaze on 26 April.

A building has been partially dismantled to give safe access to the service, which believed metal machinery had been removed so waste could be reached and put out safely.

A fire investigation has started to identify the cause.

Telford Conservative MP Lucy Allan has said she would speak to Environment Secretary George Eustice and hold a public meeting about the blaze.

Ms Allan, writing on Facebook, said the fire was "deeply shocking".

"The long-term impact on Telford is huge: our natural environment, air, water, health, schools - the multi million cost of the clean up, which could take several years."

The Lesser Spotted Woodpecker, the least common of the species in Britain, was captured by photographer Matthew Lissimore at the Kinver Edge woodland, cared for by the National Trust.

Ewan Chapman, National Trust lead ranger at the site said: "This species of Woodpecker has been in decline in Britain since the 1970s.

"The loss of ancient woodland habitat, removal of deadwood and competition from other species have all contributed.
