    The launch of Coventry's City of Culture festival programme will be marked with a film, organisers said.

    Directed by Coventry producer Coolie, organisers were tight-lipped about the film, but said it would "say something quite extraordinary" about the city.

    It is due to be broadcast at 20:21 BST on Saturday and will be available to view via the festival's social media channels.

    The festival has been hindered and delayed by the pandemic, with the trust coordinating a "flexible" programme.

    The Coventry City of Culture Trust said more details about the launch would be released on the day on Saturday, but Ms Bhathena confirmed some lines from the novels of George Eliot, who lived in the area in the 1800s, would be incorporated.

    People in parts of Redditch will be offered Covid tests on their doorstep from tomorrow as officials try to track down cases of the South Africa variant.

    Worcestershire County Council said fewer than 10 cases have currently been identified and none are linked to international travel.

    The council's map of the affected site, external includes areas around Webheath, Southcrest and Headless Cross.

    A mobile testing unit has been set up on Thursday at the Abbey Road Stadium and public health director Dr Kathryn Cobain said door-to-door testing will begin on Friday.

    "There is the mobile testing unit there as well but people will be coming door-to-door so people can sit tight and wait for their test to come to their door," she said.

    Competitive ice hockey will return to Coventry in the autumn, with the full schedule due to be released in July.

    Coventry Blaze are due to play the first game of the new Elite League season on the weekend of 25 and 26 September, with the playoff finals weekend scheduled for 23 and 24 April.

    The 2020-21 season had to be called off because of coronavirus restrictions and instead Coventry Blaze played in a short series of games in the Spring, losing in the semi-final to the eventual winners, Nottingham Panthers.

    William and Kate started with a visit to The Way Youth Zone, an organisation that provides sports, arts and recreation activities and they joined a session for the young people there.

    The visit was arranged to coincide with Mental Health Awareness Week, an annual event hosted by the Mental Health Foundation,

    This year's theme is the role nature can play in improving psychological wellbeing.

    There's been a spate of caravan thefts in north Staffordshire.

    Two were taken from a storage facility in Bignall End on 7 May and another two were taken on 9 May - one from a farm near Newcastle-under-Lyme and the other from a farm near Biddulph.

    A 150-year-old mosaic, discovered by builders, has been given a new home in Coventry city centre.

    The tiles were originally from the White Lion Pub, which was demolished in the 1950s.

    Contractors removed the tiles and they will now become a feature of the revamped Upper Precinct area.

    Five people were rescued from a Telford care home last night after a fire broke out.

    Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service said it was called to the Villa Nursing and Residential Care Home on Park Avenue at 19:02 and it took about an hour to extinguish.

    Two of the people rescued were taken to hospital, but have since returned to the care home, along with everyone else.

    The care home manager, Mary Dzimwasha, said the building hadn't been seriously damaged and an investigation was being carried out to see what started the fire.
