Midlander Andy Sullivan has had a cracking first couple of days at the 149th Open Championship at Royal St George's, Sandwich, in Kent.
The 35-year-old from Nuneaton shot a three-under-par 67 for the second day running to stand on six under for the championship - tied fourth, three shots off the lead, currently held by South African Louis Oosthuizen and Americans Collin Morikawa and Jordan Spieth.
Sullivan, whose best Open finish was 12th at Royal Troon in 2016, birdied the 4th for the second day running to go out in 34, before coming back in 33, thanks to birdies at 12, 14 and 16, spoiled only by a dropped shot at 15.
Sullivan, will now be among the late starters on Saturday, while Wolverhampton's Aaron Rai, 26, will also be there for the weekend, after shooting 70-69 for one under at his first Open.
Staffordshire's Richard Mansell, 26, also made a great recovery at his first Open.
After dropping three shots in his first four holes of the day, he looked likely to miss the cut, but he did not suffer another dropped shot.
He picked up birdies at 6 and 7, then two more at 13 and the difficult 15th to come home in 33, signing for a one-under 69 - and one over for the championship.
A man arrested on suspicion of murdering a woman in Redditch has been released under investigation.
Koreen Danks, 35, was found at a property on Prospect Road North in Redditch, Worcestershire, on Wednesday afternoon, police said.
The force said the man was aged in his 30s.
An extra mobile testing unit opens today in Tamworth as health officials look to keep bringing down the town's infection rate after a recent surge.
The walk-in unit is the second based at the Sir Robert Peel Hospital to offer PCR tests as Staffordshire County Council said people have struggled to book tests via the national website due to high demand.
Cases in Tamworth began rising after the England versus Scotland match on 18 June but have started to fall in the past few days.
But Tamworth Borough Council leader Jeremy Oates said the infection rate is still high at 616.7 cases per 100,000 people for the week up to 11 July.
"This proactive approach is starting to bring cases down from the peak, but they still remain very high, so we all need to keep up the hard work," he said.
A man has died after a collision between a quad bike and a car in Solihull, West Midlands Police said.
The force said the rider of the Taiwan Goldenbee bike was overtaking a line of traffic in Warwick Road in Olton as a Ford Fiesta turned right into a petrol station and the two collided.
The quad bike driver, a 64-year-old man suffered serious injuries and died at the scene, it said.
The driver of the Fiesta was uninjured and is assisting the force with its inquiries.

Young people in the West Midlands are being urged to get their Covid jab as nurses say they have seen a reluctance among some to get the vaccine.
Dozens of walk-in vaccination centres will open up in the West Midlands this weekend for adults to come forward without needing an appointment.
Nurse Alex Arnott-Bowl, from University Hospitals Birmingham, says they have seen some hesitancy among young people and they want more 18 to 30 year-olds to get jabbed.
"There are still a number of younger people in intensive care. Also, if they are mixing at big events, they can pass it on to others and of course they have their elderly relatives to think of as well," she says.
Teacher Hayley Gaio, 25, used a pop-up centre at Birmingham New Street station on Thursday and says she wanted to help stop the spread of Covid-19.
"Working at a school, I am seeing tonnes of kids testing positive and then going and seeing their families at home who are going to test positive," she says.

Rai, 26, from Three Hammers, followed his opening day level-par 70 at the 149th Open Championship at Royal St George's, Sandwich with a one-under 69 on day two.
After 13 straight pars, he birdied the long 14th, only to return to level par when he dropped a shot at 15, the toughest hole on the course.
But he birdied the 18th to stand eight shots off the tournament lead, currently held by American Collin Morikawa.
Staffordshire pro Richard Mansell, also 26, from Beau Desert, looks likely to miss the cut. After eight holes today, he was on one over for the round, three over for the championship - two off the projected cut mark.
But Nuneaton's Andy Sullivan is still going well. The 35-year-old 2016 Ryder Cup player is so far one under for the day, having moved to four under on the leaderboard, in a tie for ninth.

There are signs of a strong recovery in Stratford-upon-Avon ahead of the ending of England's lockdown rules on Monday, according to some hospitality businesses.
Jonathan Loxley, manager of Loxley’s restaurant, says the past year with the pandemic has been tough but the town is now "buzzing".
"We went from being closed for six-and-a-half months and we have come back to a time where I have never seen it as busy. It really has taken off," he says.
However, while trade may be improving, Zenios Loucas, who owns The Fourteas tea room in the town, says staff having to self-isolate is holding them back.
"Today, three of my staff are self-isolating at home because they got pinged that they had to stay at home. It is an absolute waste of manpower," he says.
