    A man with a family-run Italian restaurant in Stratford-upon-Avon said workers were "ecstatic" after watching Italy win Euro 2020, with English fans at a bar in the town "exchanging banter all night".

    Dino De Angelis, 30, pictured with Yorkshire mother Jackie and Italian father Antonino, both 63, stated he had said he would support Italy, but if England won, he would congratulate them.

    Mr De Angelis, whose family has run Sorrento Restaurant since 1984, said he had lost his voice and "everything is a bit of a blur", after "jumping up and down".

    He said: "[Other people] came to shake our hand to say 'well done and good luck'."

    Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish has been widely praised after handing a pair of his boots to a child, external.

    The England player made the gesture after the team lost their Euro final to Italy at Wembley.

    Gaynor Duarte said on Twitter, external: "Aww how lovely. Bless him. He must have been devastated but still had a smile and time for the young fans. Think I'm a fan now"

    David Fensome tweeted, external: "A lovely gesture. Class from a great player and clearly a decent man."

    Twitter user @katie2779 said, external: "What a gentleman. That young lad will remember that day forever. Jack Grealish is a class act. Well done Sir."

    Grealish came on as a substitute after 99 minutes, as the game ended 1-1 after extra-time before England lost on penalties.

    A woman remains in hospital in Birmingham after suffering two broken legs, a broken pelvis and a broken shoulder when she was hit by a car in Wednesbury.

    Another woman who was injured when a car mounted the pavement on Lower High Street yesterday has been released from hospital.

    West Midlands Police said it believes it was a targeted attack, but no arrests have been made yet.

    Wolves say they have been alerted "to a racist tweet sent by a Wolves 'fan'".

    They added it had been reported to their hate crime officer and West Midlands Police.

    The club said: "Vile abuse like this will not be tolerated at Wolves."

    A Shropshire parish councillor has denied posting racist comments on Facebook following England's defeat in Sunday night's Euros final.

    Paul Bradbury represents Pontesbury and allegedly put up a post on his personal Facebook account about England's footballers.

    There has been widespread condemnation of racist abuse aimed at Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Bukayo Saka after they failed to score in the penalty shoot-out with Italy.

    Mr Bradbury claims his account was hacked and has since deleted the post.

    He told BBC Shropshire's politcal reporter Joanne Gallacher that his password was "quite a simple and easy one" to guess and he was alerted to the post in a series of direct messages.

    Pontesbury Parish Council has not yet commented.

    The England side have been "exceptional" throughout the tournament, said the manager of Coventry United Ladies.

    "People write us off before every tournament and I think to get to the final and take it to penalties and conduct ourselves in the manner we have, I think we can be nothing but proud," said Jay Bradford.

    "What this tournament has given people is memories with friends and family and it's made us feel sort of normal again as a society."

    Racism directed at some of the players after the game was "just disgusting," she said.

    "There's no place for it in life and there's no place for it in sport."

  18. Police called to dozens of fights after Euro finalpublished at 15:31 British Summer Time 12 July 2021

    West Midlands Police said officers were called to more than 60 incidents on Sunday night following England's defeat in the Euro 2020 final.

    The force said the majority of calls concerned fighting and disorder at licenced premises across the region.

    In some cases, officers directed people to leave the premises and details have been recorded for suspects to be interviewed in due course.

    A spokesperson for the force said it had been prepared for an increase in call outs and had deployed extra resources in preparation.

    Andrew Clayton reckoned the side could be good for the next decade and singled out two men: "Southgate is a stonking manager. Kane is both commanding and relatable as captain."
